LSU BASKETBALL LSU vs EKU Post Game Presser Notes

Kim Mulkey
  • Says they have depth, but they don't have it right now. She's still piecing it together.
  • They want to play a lot of kids and press on defense. They want to keep her players fresh so they can put pressure on opposing offenses.
  • Says Flau'jae is in the best shape she's ever been in and thinks she's playing effortlessly. Thinks she's a leader on the court, but wants to see her become more of a vocal leader.
  • Thinks this team has 4-5 players who can be double-digit scorers every night.
  • Wants to get everybody healthy before she tries to evaluate her team too much. Mikaylah's fighting through an ankle injury, Del Rosario is still hurting and Mjracle Sheppard is out for a few weeks.
  • Thinks Sa'Myah gets in her head a bit defensively. She thinks about her knee and it prevents her from moving laterally some times. Thinks her confidence in her knee will comeback in time.
  • Calls Flau'jae and Mikaylah two of the best guards in the country despite being so young.
Shayeann Day-Wilson & Sa'Myah Smith
  • Smith was excited to get back out on the court after tearing her ACL last year. She got more comfortable as the game went on when she scored 6 of her 15 points in the 4th quarter.
  • Wilson said she transferred to LSU to win a national championship and she knows Mulkey will bring out the best in her as a PG.
  • Wilson is super experienced and has played at two power five programs before LSU, but she had to learn how each of her teammates play the game as a PG. She's trying to build bonds with everyone so she can be the facilitator of the offense and try to understand their play style.
  • Smith called the last year really hard as she recovered from her knee injury. She reiterated that she's really excited to be back with the team this year and playing.

LSU FOOTBALL 11/04 Brian Kelly Media Availability Notes

  • They worked a lot on the run game and special teams during the bye week. They also let a lot of their guys who were hurt recover.
  • Calls Alabama the most balanced team they'll play this year. Says they have talent across the board and have no apparent weaknesses.
  • Thinks Bama has a very deep and experienced offensive line, which helps their offense go.
  • Garrett Dellinger is out with an ankle sprain. He had a "tightrope" surgery during the bye. Thinks he has a good chance to play vs Florida.
  • Says it's nice to have guys like Mason Taylor and Aaron Anderson who can help them stay ahead of the sticks and pick up third downs. Also credits Lacy for his efforts on third down. Wants to create a bit more "uncertainty" in opposing defenses on what they're going to do. Wants to work in more screens and other misdirections.
  • CJ Daniels is feeling better than he was last game. Feels he'll be able to help them out against Alabama.
  • Said it wasn't a fun bye week, but they needed to fix some errors and get ready for Alabama this week.
  • Calls Paul Mubenga a "key backup" that they expect to get the job done when he comes in. He's expected to start this week, and they expect him to play well.
  • Felt they didn't really know what to do with Jalen Milroe last year, but settled on him late in the year. Now they've had a full offseason to develop him and scheme for him. Thinks it's allowed him to be more comfortable, but has also made it a bit easier for them to game plan because they know what he likes to do.
  • Thinks it's going to be big for them to get Jacobian Guillory back next year. He likes what he's seen from the young guys this year, but getting a vet back will turn that position into a strength of the defense.
  • Says Garrett Nussmeier needs to understand that sometimes punting or throwing the ball away is the right move, but also thinks everyone around him needs to help him out more. He can't feel like he needs to do everything by himself.
  • Credits Corey Raymond for his coaching, but he really credits Stamps and Alexander for their development. They trust what Raymond is teaching them, but they're also trusting themselves and their abilities, which has given them a ton of confidence.
  • Excited to have College Game Day here. Thinks it does a great deal for Baton Rouge and the fans.
  • Thought the SEC memo on penalties for faking injuries was "timely." Says this kind of "nonsense" needs to stop, because it's silly and needed to happen.
  • Last bye week, they took time to get their players to register to vote. His expectation are that they know how important it is to vote, and hopes they will tomorrow.
  • They've talked with West Weeks and his family about preserving another year of eligibility. Want him to come back next year, but says if there's an injury at LB this year, he will step in.

Visiting the Baton Rouge area...

...from Thursday evening until Tuesday. Need some recommendations on where to go to eat. Only been to Baton Rouge about 6 times in my whole 44 years, 4 of which were for baseball games at The Box, 1 guided tour of Tiger Stadium, and a field trip when I was in grade school. We plan to eat out each night so load me up with the best places to go!

Of a more somber note, my cousin and a fellow LSU alum, George Haliburton Ware III (aka Hal), has passed away at the age of 54. He had a bout with stomach cancer that they thought he had beaten, but unfortunately, it came back with a vengeance. He was very passionate about LSU sports, especially baseball. His parents, also both LSU alum, have season tickets for baseball and have been on different committee's for the school. I don't know if anyone here knew my cousin or his parents, but please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as this hit hard.

The latest we're hearing on Bryce Underwood...

We're hearing LSU isn't overly concerned about it right now but they could be covering some tracks. If Joe Sloan takes the East Carolina job then that would immensely help Michigan. The Wolverines are definitely making overtures.

LSU FOOTBALL Perspective

First off, no one is more pissed about our second half than me. Nuss made some bad throws and was off all night. We couldn’t run the ball. Play calling was predictable. Jones had his worst game of the year. Weeks was nowhere to be found. Baker shit the bed in the second half. wTf made half time adjustments and we couldn’t stop a running QB.

That being said, I’m sure most of you would have jumped after the Nicholls game if were asked would you take going 2-1 with OM, Arky, and wTf.

Tough loss to swallow. Have an off week and a chance to win out. Who knows what happens after that.
