Dear Blake Baker…,

I hope this letter finds you well and I want to give you a heads up as you are the defensive coordinator of our beloved LSU Fightin Tigers. There’s a new trend sweeping college football. It’s called the dual threat quarterback. Believe it or not this new phenomenon can not only throw but also run - sometimes better than a running back.

There’s a wild rumor going around that our next opponent, the hated Alabama Crimson Tide has such a freak at quarterback. Now with two weeks to prepare I have the utmost confidence that you and your talented team of defensive coaching gurus will devise a grand scheme full of brilliant, genius maneuvers to thwart the best efforts of our opponent.

I am optimistically awaiting this grand battle and I have the utmost confidence that your and your formidable defense will hold the vaunted Crimson Tide dual threat quarterback to less than 300 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns.

A Tiger Fan For Life

LSU BASKETBALL LSU vs Alabama State Post Game Presser Notes

Matt McMahon
  • Thought there were a lot of lessons to learn from tonight, but he's excited they won. Alabama State's guards kicked their butt in the first half, but thought they came back out in the second half well.
  • Thought they played with more pride in the second half, especially defensively.
  • Alabama State did a great job defensively on the arc in the first half, but thought they were able to create better opportunities in the second half by getting to the rim more often.
  • Said Jalen Reed was struggling with some cramping today, so that's why he didn't play too much.
  • Thought FT shooting was the key to the game. They shot 50% in the first half, but finished shooting 18-20 in the second half, which helped them crawl back into it.
  • Was proud of Sears for flipping a switch in the second half after a poor first half. Thought him getting to the line 11 times was big.
Jordan Sears and Dji Bailey
  • Sears credits McMahon for giving him some halftime adjustments which helped him in the second half.
  • Bailey said they were just trying to keep their heads sane during half time and figure out a defensive identity in the second half.
  • Sears said he likes to think he's strong for his size, which allows him to get to the basket as an undersized player.
  • Bailey came on a visit and loved the coaching staff, so thought it was an easy decision once he got down here. Sears said McMahon continued to talk to him all offseason and built a big relationship with him.
  • Said they see Cam Carter go off in practice everyday, so they knew it was only a matter of time before he went off.
  • Bailey prides himself on being the glue guy. He wants to do whatever the team needs whether that's scoring, rebounding or play making.

LSU FOOTBALL LSU vs Alabama Post Game Presser Notes

  • Takes ownership for not getting his guys in positions to succeed. Thinks they missed a lot of opportunities to change the game.
  • Said the coaches all need to be better moving forward.
  • Said 'If you're watching the game, you're like 'what have these guys been doing for two weeks?'
  • They need to be able to get their guys in positions to succeed. They don't have anyone else they can bring in, they just need to find where to play everyone so they can succeed. Says his guys were ready, but they just didn't put them in the right spots tonight.
  • Says they did not play to LSU standard, and that's more disappointing to them than being eliminated from the playoffs.
  • They have six turnovers in the last two games. Says if you told him before the games they'd do that against A&M and Alabama, he wouldn't like his chances.
  • Reiterated multiple times that they did not play to LSU's standard and he needs to be better at getting his guys in positions to succeed.
  • Thinks Nussmeier is "getting there." Says the run game hasn't done him many favors, especially when they get into the red zone.
  • Says he's seen that second interception so many times in his career. It was a linebacker who dropped and you need to throw a perfect ball with touch, but it gets picked off often.
  • Not advocating for people to throw stuff on the field, but says he would not be happy if he was in the stands watching.
  • Says they can't overcome all the things that went wrong tonight. They were able to against SC, but not against Alabama.

LSU FOOTBALL For those of you going to the Alabama game...

Here's what we were sent about pregame and in-game festivities:

ESPN College GameDay, Olympians, former Tiger football greats, and a drone show are just some of the highlights fans will enjoy Saturday when 15th-ranked LSU hosts 11th-ranked Alabama in a sold-out Tiger Stadium.

Kickoff for the premier matchup in college football is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC.

ESPN’s College GameDay will start the buzz on campus at 8 a.m. on Saturday when the three-hour show takes place in The Quad. Some of the highlights of College GameDay include the guest picker segment featuring Livvy Dunne and Paul Skenes along with a performance by country singer and LSU graduate Jordan Davis.

LSU coach Brian Kelly will appear on the GameDay set at 9:20 a.m.

The LSU women’s basketball team will also make an appearance on College GameDay with dynamic guard Flau’jae Johnson taking part in an interview with Jess Simms during the 9 a.m. hour.

As for the game itself, a new element to the Tiger Stadium experience for fans will be the CUE Audio light show. Fans will be able to help light up Tiger Stadium throughout the game with their mobile devices. To participate, fans will need to download the latest version of the LSU Sports Mobile App https://lsusports.net/apps/ prior to arriving to Tiger Stadium.

Once in Tiger Stadium, fans will be prompted to scan the QR code displayed on the video board to participate in each light show.

LSU will also treat fans to two drone shows – featuring over 400 drones hovering over the north side of Tiger Stadium - during the game. The first drone show will take place in conjunction with the Golden Band from Tigerland’s halftime performance – a tribute to our military. The second drone show will take place during the traditional Callin’ Baton Rouge video between the third and fourth quarter.

Former LSU and WNBA great and current Tiger assistant coach Seimone Augustus will be recognized for being inducted into four halls of fame in a span of six months. Augustus, arguably the most impactful female student-athlete in LSU history, is in her first year on Kim Mulkey’s staff after a hall-of-fame WNBA career.

LSU will also recognize 22 former and current student-athletes who participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics at halftime following the band performance. The list includes three gold medal winners in Mondo Duplantis (pole vault), Sha’Carri Richardson (4 x 400 relay) and Vernon Norwood (4 x 400 relay). In all, LSU athletes captured eight medals at the Paris Olympics.

Several former LSU football standouts will also be on hand Saturday, including Andrew Whitworth, Jamal Adams, Grant Delpit, Matt Flynn, Ricky Jean-Francois, Stephen Peterman and Leonard Fournette. Jean-Francois, Peterman and Fournette are serving as honorary guest captains for the game.
