RECRUITING Signing day is not the same. It's a year commitment day.

I loved signing day in the past. The one in early Feb, where commitments were somewhat binding, at least more than a year. When you couldn't transfer in less that 365 from signing. So today's gains and losses don't swing the meter for me. These kids are free agents, whomever we may have lost today can be back here within a year. I hate what it is, I despise that an entire coaching staff can put in years of work to cultivate relationships and just be left at the alter because we were a few dollars short. I love the recruits that commit, and stay that way because they love the staff, the school and the culture. And I'd love to say that you can win championships with those players, but I can't. You need those elite guys, the guys who command the dollars, and it sucks. Just my very humble opinion.

Chances are…

At least 2 Louisiana players who did not sign with LSU this year will finish their careers here.

There’s a very good chance Jhakeem Stewart is one of those. He comes from a close knit family that’s has a large and influential clan that wants him at LSU so they can watch him play. Signing with USC was strictly about the money. When the start of the 2025 season arrives it will be almost 2 years since he has played and he should be a senior in HS. He will not be ready for big boy football for another couple years.

RECRUITING Flipping r

Most rating services have this class at about No.8 which is pretty darn good considering the players lost who flipped the last few days

I know the we flipped the outstanding OT Thomas from FSU

Did we flip more players to us than we lost from flipping

In other words did we win the flipping game ?

LSU FOOTBALL Brian Kelly Early National Signing Day Press Conference

  • Says this has been a recruiting period unlike he's ever been in.
  • Says it's not just about finding the right fit academically and schematically. It's about what the most money they can get is, and that's unfortunate.
  • They're excited about all their Louisiana players. They have 10 of them. Feels they did a great job of getting fit and talent in LA.
  • Says overall, it's the finest class he's signed.
  • Says Brandon Brown is a very good pass rusher who he comps to Jay'viar Suggs. Says he has a quick first step like Suggs, who's one of their best pass rushers.
  • Calls JT Lindsey one of the hottest players in the country, especially at RB. Says he's had an incredible year and an electric back.
  • Calls DJ Pickett as close to a lockdown corner as there is.
  • Charles Ross is going to be a difference maker in Blake Baker's defense. He has elite speed at the LB position.
  • Says he expects them to add some more later today.
  • Recruiting is no longer just about relationships. You need a collective and NIL. It's just the reality of the sport today.
  • "It's not longer about just your brand. It's about you ability to supplement that with dollars...If you want to be able to close some of these, you need active participation from a donor base."
  • Mentions Carius Curne, Zion Williams, DJ Pickett and Brett Bordelon as guys who are physically gifted enough to play next season.
  • They didn't have this kind of across the board commitment to the financial side of NIL until now. Says everybody is going hard. Mid Majors are getting in the mix for some of the top names instead of just Big 10 or ACC.
  • Says they will welcome at least 25 freshman, maybe as many as 27. They're at 22 signees right now, 23 if Thomas flips. They have their eyes on at least two more. Might not come today though.
  • Says with 25 freshman, they have room for 12 transfers.

RECRUITING National Signing Day Central

Good morning, Tiger fans. It's officially after 7:00 which means the NLI's could start rolling in any minute now. They'll likely come in throughout the day, but I'd expect some early. @Luke Hubbard and I are here manning the news and will keep you updated with everything as it happens. Everything will be posted here in one centralized location. There's a few things to monitor today, and LSU could be in store for some "surprises", some good and some potentially not so great depending on how things shake out.

RECRUITING Jahkeem Stewart to announce commitment on Wednesday

Five-star Louisiana native, Jahkeem Stewart, is announcing his college decision on Wednesday. Right now, USC are the favorites, but LSU is still in the running. Seems like NIL is going to play a pretty big factor in this one, and spending big on a guy who's played 10 high school football games might not be the right move for LSU. We'll update you if anything new comes before he decides.
