LSU BASEBALL LSU vs Texas A&M post game presser

Jay Johnson
  • Says this is the biggest win of the season so far.
  • Loves what he got from his freshman (Larson, Milam and Brown).
  • Thought Fidel’s outing was huge for them.
  • Thought his batters did a good job in their approach with runners in scoring position.
  • Says Josh Pearson is someone he defaults to when they need big at bats in big games. His stats might not be crazy, but he’s seriously clutch.
  • Said there were a lot of things that went wrong tonight. Never saw four reviews overturned in a game, much less against one team, but they still won.
  • Says whoever had the fan interference, they forgive them and hope they come out tomorrow.
  • Thought Prager threw a really good game. He flooded the zone, and even when he didn’t, he was putting them close.
Josh Pearson
  • Says he tries to keep his heart rate low in big moments, which has been why he’s been so clutch.
  • Says they know they have the talent to beat anyone, they just needed to put it all together, which is what they did tonight.
  • They know they overcame a lot of things that went wrong, so it makes tonight’s win feel a lot better.
  • They were getting outside of their plan and taking bad at bats early in SEC play, but feels they’ve been able to slow down and take better at bats recently.
Steven Milam
  • He’s been working to slow the game down and take better at bats.
  • Thought he made the final out, but was confident herring would get it done after it was overturned.
  • Doesn’t think they’ve had a great year as a team, but they’re sticking with it and getting better.

LIVE GAME THREAD Game 1: LSU (29-17, 7-14 SEC) vs #1 Texas A$M (39-6, 15-6 SEC)

Gents, and here we are. After winning 2 of 3 against a historically terrible auburn team, we now face possibly the best A$M team we have ever faced. #1 in the country (have they ever been #1?) and 15-6 in conference play.

We are 7-14 with a 13-17 likely magic number to make a regional. To have a legit shot at 6-3, we need to take down wtf. That elevates us to 9-15 and going 4-2 in last two series is possible but probably less than 50/50. One game at the time. We need to concentrate on today's game, and we need another career game from Gage Jump. Geaux Tigers!

For me, I actually hate A&M more than bama. and nothing would make me feel better than sending them home crying to their $40 billion dollar war chest that has bought them "diddly poo."

LSU vs Texas A$M History
Texas A&M leads the all-time series with LSU – which began in 1907 – 31-28-1 … the Tigers won two of three games over the Aggies last season in Bryan-College Station on March 17-19, which was the opening weekend of SEC play … Texas A&M, however, later defeated LSU in an elimination game of the 2023 SEC Tournament, 5-4, on May 26 … the Aggies lead the series, 16-15, in the 31 games played between the schools since Texas A&M began playing baseball in the SEC in 2013 … 12 of the 31 games played since 2013 have been decided by one run … LSU is 6-6 vs. Texas A&M in its SEC regular-season games played in Baton Rouge since 2015.

A few very encouraging notes from the last 9 games (7-2).
- LSU has out-homered its opponents, 26-4, in the Tigers’ last nine games.
- The LSU pitching staff has posted a 2.72 ERA in the Tigers’ last nine games, allowing just 23 earned runs while recording 23 walks and 91 strikeouts in 76 innings. Opponents are batting just .197 against LSU during that nine-game span.
- Senior right-hander Christian Little is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in his last four relief appearances (7 innings) in that 9-game period.
- Freshman outfielder Ashton Larson is batting 419 (13-for-31) in LSU’s last nine games. Larson was LSU’s leading hitting in its series victory versus Auburn, batting .462 (6-for-13) with one double, three RBI, and one stolen base. Larson is hitting a team-high .412 (21-for-51) in SEC games this season with six doubles, three homers, nine RBI and 10 runs scored.
- Junior shortstop Michael Braswell III is hitting .393 (11-for-28) with three doubles, four RBI and seven runs in LSU’s last nine games.
- Junior third baseman Tommy White is hitting .350 and has six homers and 15 RBI in LSU’s last nine games.

T J Finley...

I see that he had a good year at Texas State and has now transferred to Western Kentucky, with a great chance to be the starter again. Hope he does well and develops enough (and gets the reps) to get into the league. I thought his transfer to Auburn was a mistake (as a choice) because he needed reps and experience, plus good QB coaching, and that a step down made the most sense. Maybe he is on track now. thoughts?

LSU BASEBALL Paul Skenes

I watched some of Paul Skenes' game last night, and it's insane to me that he hasn't been called up yet. Some of his stats this season:
  • 6 games
  • 23.0IP
  • 0.39 ERA
  • 0.87 WHIP
  • 41K
  • .171 opponent batting average
He has allowed ONE earned run in 23 innings. He didn't have a single 23.0 inning stretch at LSU where he allowed only one run, and that was against college hitters, he's doing this against AAA hitters. He's only gotten better since leaving and it's such a shame the Pirates are waiting until June 1st to exercise some contract rule that'll keep him on his rookie deal a year longer (I don't know much about the MLB, but that's what my friend told me).

Luckily, we're only about month away from when he'll likely be called up.

LSU BASEBALL Regional Status

gents, based on our much improved pitching, winning our last two series, and going 7-2 in our last 9 games we have been moved up to the last (4) out according to Baseball America.

We are 7-14 and pretty much need to be 13-17 to have a realistic shot, so we need to finish 6-3. Considering the consensus #1 team in the country is coming to the box this weekend, and then #17 bama in Tuscaloosa, and finishing with Ole Miss at home, this is a long shot.

I give us a 25% chance. If Holman and Jump can find a way to beat A&M, then we will legitimately have a shot.

thoughts?
