Happy for his players. They heard the noise from the fans and responded.
Felt like they had a great week of practice. Said the players stood up and said they had to play better, and they did.
They were getting a lot of man coverage in fourth down early, so they knew they could get the ball out quick on the 4th and 5 because they were giving them cushion.
Said Josh Williams' performance was physicality, want and desire. Said he set the tone for the team.
Said losing Bryce Underwood this week didn't effect the players or coaches. It sucks, but they were focused on Vanderbilt and it didn't get anybody down.
A lot of their success in the run game was because of the Oline, but said Nuss controlled the run game better than he had all year. Said he checked out of some runs into quick passes when the box was loaded. Called it the standard of what they need from him.
Wilson Alexander reports that LSU offered Underwood over 1.5 mil per year, which would've made him the highest paid player on the team. They never stood a chance when Michigan upped it to 5mil per year.
LSU and Pitt begin the inaugural Greenbrier Tip-Off in about 20 minutes on CBS Sports Network. This is a massive game for McMahon's squad. Pitt ranks 14th in KenPom and would likely give the Tigers a Q1 win if they were to beat the Panthers. Here's some stats to know before the game:
LSU
Tigers rank 1st in the country in opponent three-point percentage (19%).
Four players average double figures, but Vyctorius Miller is getting close (9.3).
Shooting just 31% from three this year.
13.5 turnovers per game. Has been a big problem for them early in the season.
Top-50 in rebounds per game (45). Average 10 OREB.
Pitt
Pitt ranks 15th in defensive efficiency and 22nd in offensive efficiency
Pitt's opponents make just 27% of their threes.
They hold opponents to 56 PPG.
Opponents turn it over 13.4 time per game
They hit 37% of their threes.
All of their starters average double figures.
Should be a really good matchup. Offense is going to need to be great today, because Pitt is relentless on defense. Going to be hard to dig themselves out of a hole if they get down early.
Garrett Dellinger practiced today. Still a game time decision. Says he hasn't been worried about resting for the draft process, he wants to play for LSU.
Thinks his team has responded well in practice this week. Says they want to play better, so they've been practicing hard.
Kaleb Jackson played little high school football and didn't really play that much as a freshman, but because he ran some people over, fans got excited. Says he's still very much learning how to play the game. Thinks his attitude has been great through this process.
Caden Durham had two dislocated toes and has had a steel plate in his shoe for multiple games. Thinks it's incredible how he's been playing the last few weeks.
His experience has told him that if a player is developing the right way and has some incentive to come back, they'll come back instead of going to the draft. Says revenue sharing has also helped them give guys some money to retain them.
Says when their opponents have thrown at Zy Alexander, he's risen to the challenge, but notes he's had some help. Says with where he plays on the field, he gets a lot of help from safeties over the top that guys like Stamps don't get as often.
