LSU BASKETBALL LSU vs CSU Post Game Presser Notes

Matt McMahon
  • Gives credit to CSU for being the aggressor in the first half. Knew they'd be tested on the offensive glass, but they didn't perform how he'd want to there.
  • Credits Vyctorius Miller, says they would've been down 15 at half without him.
  • Says you've got to make FTs. They shot 13-23 tonight and it could've cost them the game.
  • Thought Daimion Collins' rim protection was huge tonight and it led to some fast breaks for them.
  • Thought the defense got too stretched at times which allowed CSU to get penetration off the dribble.
  • In the past he's usually let his guys play through two fouls in the first half, but tonight he let some of the other guys get in the game and give them good minutes.

LSU BASEBALL LSU Baseball Sunday Scrimmage Notes

Death Valley Insider’s Carter Chandler was on hand for LSU’s baseball scrimmage on Sunday.

Here’s his notes from today’s action…

Carter Chandler: To start, both teams came out firing. Chase Shores started on the mound today and gave up 4 runs in the first inning. Josh Pearson hit an RBI triple off him and then eventually scored from third on a wild pitch. To follow, Dalton Beck hit a two-run home run to right field. The bats were looking good early, which is great but on the other hand they were hitting off their own pitchers. Chase Shores got hit off pretty hard. To follow, in the bottom of the first inning the bats didn’t slow down. Derek Curiel executed a beautiful hit and run to put runners on the corners. Ethan Frey hit an RBI double to get on the board. Blaise Priester proceeded to hit a two-run home run to the opposite field. Freshman, Jon Pearson followed up with a solo home run of his own.

Later in the scrimmage, Ethan Frey hit a home run to left field that hit about halfway up the scoreboard. A lot of home runs were hit today. The bats were hot early, which was excellent to see. So far, the transfers are making a big impact, let’s see if that will carry over to the regular season in a few months. On the defensive side, it was clean and sharp defense, a lot of routine plays were made. Michael Braswell III was playing third base, and he made a really fine play on a slow roller. He attacked the ball and delivered a strong accurate throw on the run. John Pearson also made a good play over at first base, a sharply hit ball down the line that took a high bounce, Pearson was able to field it and toss the ball to the pitcher to record the out.

True freshman William Schmidt made an appearance on the mound today. He recorded two strikeouts in one inning and his velocity was looking good for this time of the year. However, Cade Arrambide took Schmidt deep as he cranked a home run to the opposite field. Besides the home run, Schmidt looked really sharp. Not to mention, Kade Anderson was very effective today and he punched out multiple batters. Look for him to be a difference maker this year. All around it was a great effort by both sides of the scrimmage. I was very impressed with the offense today as there were numerous hard-hit balls. I would say it was a great scrimmage for the LSU baseball program.

LSU FOOTBALL 11/18 Brian Kelly Media Availability Notes

  • Says they've had a few losses this year where they don't feel good about anything that you did.
  • Says their focus is on converting drives into TDs instead of FGs and stopping explosive plays on defense.
  • Calls Vanderbilt's defense tough and physical. They don't have one glaring weakness, they're good against the rush and pass. Said Diego Pavia is "the guy who makes it happen for them." Also calls their special teams outstanding.
  • Says if you take Alabama out of the equation, they had three games where they went into the third quarter believing they had a legitimate shot to win, and should've won.
  • Da'Shawn Womack will be available this week after not traveling with the team to Florida.
  • Sloan is still calling plays, which he's able to hear in his headset. Says he has some input if he doesn't like the call, but with Nuss being able to hear them, the conversation needs to be kept short. Says Nuss can hear him and Sloan, so he has the ability to override a play call, but hasn't yet.
  • Kelly reiterates that he wants to build through high school ranks instead of the transfer portal. They'll still use it to fill needs, but feels good about the young guys they have.
  • Says Tyree Adams and Paul Mubenga are in the mix to start at guard if needed.
  • You need to maintain relationships with your recruits all year long, so says that they haven't really ramped up communication with their commits with the three game losing spell because they were already communicating with them all the time to maintain that relationship.
  • One of their main offensive focuses is returning to be able to move the ball down the field through the air. They need to be able to push the ball like they were earlier in the season.
  • Says you need a very disciplined defense against Vandy's offense. They play very assignment correct and want to catch you in a mistake, and they'll make you pay for it.
  • They're trying to get to the end of what happened on Florida's last touchdown when Whit Weeks said half the defense thought they were in one play call and the other half thought they were in another call.
  • Thought Nuss was extremely intentional about his actions in taking care of the football. He had a fumble, but was under pressure all night and threw the ball away multiple times instead of forcing things.
  • Said he is very pleased with his team's want and desire to win.

LSU FOOTBALL Realities

Reality No.1 BK is NOT getting the pink slip , not now and not anytime soon . Woodard has hung his hat on him and will, ride him for as long as it takes . Firing coaches every 3 years is ticket to mediocrity. IMO that does not work and like it not he’s going to be our coach for some time .

We can feel free to critique all we want. Its part of being arm chair QBs .No harm in doing so since it creates interesting discussion

Reality No.2
this in NOT A. Talented team as whole
Our no.1 WR came. from UL . Our No.1 or 2 RB is walk on
The WR corps is less than average
OL …all five are overrated including Campbell
Nuss without the ability to run at least a bit is limited ..he’s not our problem IMO

Our best DB came from Southeastern
How many defenders who started v Fla will be drafted day 1 or even day two ( rd 2-3 )
Blame lack of talent on poor evaluating , poor development , S & C coach whatever

Until the talent gets better we will be an ever average or just above average program

Reality no.3
As arm chair fans we have no say so on the goings on in the department so we can only keep supporting the team and BK
hoping that things work out

Just a little rant, y'all.

The thing with LSU is that teams now know how to slow down our offense. It's a given that LSU cannot run the ball. Not much any team has to do to stop it. Our OL is as weak as undigested food that exits the body through a small opening in the back (trying not to use profanity) and they cannot push anyone out of the way. Our opponent's DL is in the backfield before our RB has the ball. A&M showed that Nuss can be rattled under pressure and can be forced to make bad plays. Alabama took A&M's second-half formula and used it the entire game. Our OL and DL was thrown around like rag dolls in a dog park. How do you tell someone "You're my bi+ch" without saying it? Put Bama's DL on LSU OL AND Bama's OL on LSU DL. I can't be sure, but I think Jalen Milroe shouted this on every TD run he had as he passed the D-line. We can't impose our will on anyone.

I know some dont think S&C has anything to do with it. Hell if it doesn't. Yeah, I'm back on that tip. Got a lot of push back for this after the A&M game. So I tried to watch the line play thinking "maybe, I'm missing something." Nope! Jake Flint got these boys on a friggin' candy cane diet...doing curls using donuts as dumbbells.! They didn't look athletic, they're weak (see above), pushed back, stood up, moved out of the way, and they wiffed on speed rushes like they are as slow as molasses moving up hill in January. Brad Davis needs to be careful also. I saw him getting his arse chewed out last night too.

Yeah you can say its personnel, talent, still rebuilding Orgeron's mess, Kelly trying to fix his poor coaching hires, portal misses ... all of the above and youre right. Its all of that. Alabama 2024 is not Saban's Alabama of old. Their OL and DL is not the same caliber. How can every other team stop Milroe and we can't? You can't make this up!

Either we knew what Alabama was and we LET 'EM OFF THE HOOK or we are realizing today that we've been thinking we are more than what we truly are.

...that is all!
