Ashton Stamps In the Mix at CB

It makes you wonder how the ratings could miss so bad.

Here's a guy rated as the #40 best CB in 2023, a 3 star True Freshman, apparently beating out the 5 star likes of Denver Harris, Javien Toviano, and Sage Ryan at CB. Ryan will start at Nickel, and Toviano is getting his first shot at S.

As a matter of fact, Zy Alexander, Duce Chestnut, and Stamps were all 3 star (or less) coming out of HS.

LSU FOOTBALL News and Notes: Practice No. 6

As today completed the first full week of fall camp for the LSU Tigers, the media was able to sit in on about an hour and a half practice.

DEFENSE

● On the defense side, the main thing we were hearing from coaches was about the communication between the players. Although the drives were good, it seemed as if some of the players weren’t completely working together in a sense. Multiple times you could hear coaches yelling out “communicate” after a play.
● They were working on hitting the back more then anything.
● There seemed to be a lot of coaching to Safety, Major Burns.
● Defensive Tackle Jacobian Guillory had to be treated for a leg cramp close to the end of practice. Got back up and continued to practice, so it seems like he was doing better.
● Linebacker Whit Weeks was able to make a Pick during offense vs. defense plays.
● Matt Jayne, Jordan Jefferson, Harold Perkins Jr. were just a few of the heavy hitters I saw today. Making significantly hard and loud pushbacks and blocks against offensive players.

OFFENSE

● Offense today seemed to be doing great, with a few minor mistakes here and there.
● Backup QB Garret Nussmmeier was seen practicing fake plays and pushing through the middle during offense one-on-ones.
● Saw a lot of slant routes to the inside from the offense.
● Backup QB Rickie Collins threw multiple corner routes to wide receiver Aaron Anderson, but resulted in coaches telling Aaron he needed to be quicker. Should see improvement in speed by the end of fall camp.
● Wide Receivers may have had a few speed issues as well but were able to revive themselves by end of practice.
● Tight-end Ka’Morreun Pimpton dropped no balls today, from what I was able to observe. Pimpton even got a mention from Coach Denbrock at the media conference after practice, saying “Pimpton is an unbelievable, physical talent.” We should expect to see a lot of good things done and said by this freshman this season.
● Tre Bradford saw time with the first team.
● When practicing special teams, wide receiver Gregory Clayton Jr. caught multiple punts before running down the field during the drill. He also did a good juke move on Jacobian Guillory to make a successful catch.

Another thing to note about this practice was that there were a lot of freshmen that got reps on the first team. This just goes to show the level of trust the coaching staff has in some of the younger guys, giving them an opportunity to earn some of those valuable first team reps.

RECRUITING Quick decision day update on Caden Durham

Based on everything I've heard over the last several weeks, especially the last 48 to 72 hours I fully expect LSU to be the pick for Duncanville (TX) four-star running back Caden Durham today. LSU has all the momentum in this one. Confidence is on the rise in Baton Rouge and seems to be fleeting in Norman. Really think Frank Wilson closed this one strong. I would be completely shocked if it was anything else. Expect the Tigers in this one.

RECRUITING Early Morning Colin Simmons Update

I personally feel like this is about as tight as they come. A week ago, LSU was the team trending and in my gut, I want to say LSU is the pick because aside from rumors nothing has changed, he's been to campus a lot, he's fresh off the Bayou Splash visit and LSU still has the official visit in their back pocket but there is an awful lot of confidence with Texas right now and they certainly seem to be trending. I've been told that Simmons has not notified either coaching staff of his plans yet, so take what you hear from each camp with a grain of salt.

Miami feels like they're still in it also, but I really think this is a Texas-LSU battle and really in all honesty, regardless of what happens today no matter who the pick is, I think this recruitment goes all the way down to the wire until the ink is put to paper. Obviously, the team trying to retain his pledge will have the upper hand, I'm just saying even with a decision today, no matter who the pick is, this won't officially be over anytime soon.
