Toombs is a top 30 player in the country for 2025.

An SEC-record 13 LSU players were selected in this week’s Major League Baseball Draft, a total which is the third-highest in NCAA history.

Arizona State had 15 players selected in 2008, and both Rice (2007) and Cal State Fullerton (2005) had 14 players chosen in the draft.

LSU’s total of 13 drafted players this season ties the SEC mark also held by Vanderbilt in 2019, Kentucky in 2018 and Texas A&M in 2016.

LSU’s previous school record of 10 drafted players was established in 2013.

LSU this season made MLB history by producing the first two overall selections in the draft – right-handed pitcher Paul Skenes and centerfielder Dylan Crews. Skenes and Crews became the first players from the same school to be the No. 1-2 overall selections.

Since the MLB Draft began in 1965, LSU players have been selected on 253 occasions, including 21 first-round selections. The Tigers have had four first-round selections in the past two seasons – Skenes, Crews and right-handed pitcher Ty Floyd this season, and infielder Jacob Berry in 2022.

Playing in her first senior level international event, Angel Reese helped Team USA take home the silver medal in the 2023 FIBA AmeriCup.

Team USA fell to Brazil in the championship game, 69-58. Reese had four points and six rebounds in the game.

Reese finished the tournament with three double-doubles and 78 rebounds in seven games.

LSU right-handed pitcher Paul Skenes and centerfielder Dylan Crews on Sunday night became the first players from the same school to be selected first and second overall in the MLB Draft.

Skenes was selected No. 1 by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Crews was selected No. 2 by the Washington Nationals.

Skenes is the second LSU player to be the No. 1 overall selection in the MLB Draft. Right-handed pitcher Ben McDonald was the No. 1 overall pick in 1989 by the Baltimore Orioles.

LSU has had two players selected in the first round in two previous drafts – second baseman Todd Walker (Minnesota) and shortstop Russ Johnson (Houston) in 1994; and second baseman Mike Fontenot (Baltimore) and outfielder Todd Linden (San Francisco) in 2001.

Skenes, the 2023 Dick Howser Award winner, the D1 Baseball National Player of the Year, and the SEC Pitcher of the Year, compiled a 13-2 record and a 1.69 ERA in 122.2 innings with 20 walks and an SEC-record 209 strikeouts. He finished No. 1 in the nation in strikeouts (209), strikeouts per nine innings (15.33) and WHIP (0.75).

Skenes, a product of Lake Forest, Calif., finished No. 2 in the nation in ERA (1.69), No. 3 in strikeout-to-walk ratio (10.45), and No. 5 in hits allowed per nine innings (5.28). He was voted the Most Outstanding Player of the College World Series, as he was 1-0 in two starts with a 1.15 ERA in 15.2 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with two walks and 21 strikeouts.

Skenes posted a win over Tennessee (June 17) in LSU’s opening game of the CWS, working 7.2 innings and allowing two runs on five hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts. He then faced Wake Forest in the CWS semifinal round (June 22) on just four days’ rest and limited the Deacons to no runs on two hits in 8.0 innings with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Skenes, a member of the 2023 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, pledged $10 for every strikeout he recorded this season to Folds of Honor, a nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to the spouses and children of military and first responders who have died or been disabled.

Crews, a junior from Longwood, Fla., batted .426 (110-for-258) for LSU’s 2023 National Championship team with 16 doubles, two triples, 18 homers, 70 RBI and 100 runs. He was voted to the College World Series All-Tournament Team, batting .375 (12-for-32) in the CWS with one double, one triple, one homer, three RBI and 11 runs scored.

The 2023 Golden Spikes Award winner and the SEC Male Athlete of the Year, Crews finished No. 1 in the nation in runs scored (100), No. 1 in walks (71), No. 2 in on-base percentage (.567), No. 2 in base hits (110) and No. 3 in batting average (.426). He completed the year with a reached base streak of 75 games, which included all 71 games of this season and the last four games of the 2022 season.

Crews is a two-time member of the SEC Community Service Team for his exemplary work in the Baton Rouge area with families affected by autism. He was also named to the 2023 SEC Academic Honor Roll.

LSU right-handed pitcher Garrett Edwards was selected Tuesday by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 11th round (333rd pick overall) of the MLB Draft.

The draft concludes on Tuesday with Rounds 11-20, which may be viewed on MLB.com.

Edwards, a Pitkin, La., native, is a two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll as a sport administration major, and he has made 43 career appearances at LSU (three starts) from 2021-23, posting a 6-2 record and a 3.29 ERA in 68.1 innings with 23 walks and 70 strikeouts.

He pitched very effectively in 10 relief appearances in 2023 before suffering a season-ending elbow injury on April 7 at South Carolina. Edwards posted a 4-0 record and a 1.93 ERA in 23.1 innings with five walks, 27 strikeouts and a .184 opponent batting average.

He earned a relief win over Tennessee on March 30, as he fired 1.2 scoreless innings with two hits, no walks and two strikeouts. Edwards pitched in both games of a March 25 doubleheader versus Arkansas, working a total of 4.2 scoreless innings and allowing just two hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

The right-hander earned a win in relief outing at Texas A&M (March 18), pitching 3.1 innings and limiting the Aggies to one run on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

LSU second baseman Gavin Dugas was selected Monday by the Washington Nationals in the sixth round (165th pick overall) of the MLB Draft.

Rounds 3-10 will be completed on Monday, and the draft will conclude Tuesday with Rounds 11-20 beginning at 1 p.m. CT. The draft rounds on Monday and Tuesday may be viewed on MLB.com.

Dugas, a Houma, La., native, enjoyed a tremendous five-season LSU career (2019-2023), appearing in 201 games (178 starts), batting .287 (179-for-623) with 35 doubles, five triples, 44 homers, 148 RBI, 161 runs and a school-record 68 hit-by-pitch. He finished his career No. 10 on the LSU all-time list for homers.

Dugas batted .290 (65-for-224) in 2023 with 12 homers, two triples, 17 homers, 46 RBI and 74 runs, starting 66 games at second base. He finished No. 1 in the nation in hit-by-pitch with a school-record 33 on the year.

He was voted to the 2023 College World Series All-Tournament Team, as he hit .308 (8-for-26) with two doubles, two homers, four RBI and four runs scored. Dugas Launched a solo homer in LSU’s CWS opener vs. Tennessee (June 17), giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the second inning.



Dugas has earned two degrees from LSU – a bachelor’s in Sport Administration and a certificate in Construction Management. He was a four-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, and for the past two seasons he wore the coveted jersey No. 8 that is awarded each year to the upperclassman who best exemplifies the spirit of the LSU Baseball program.

LSU first baseman/outfielder Tre’ Morgan was selected Monday by the Tampa Bay Rays in the third round of the MLB Draft.

Morgan, a New Orleans, La., native, batted .316 (85-for-269) for LSU this season with 15 doubles, four triples, nine homers, 53 RBI and 66 runs. He finished No. 2 in the SEC in triples, No. 2 in sacrifice flies (8), No. 5 in hit-by-pitch (18), No. 8 in hits and No. 9 in runs scored.

Morgan was voted to the 2023 College World Series All-Tournament Team, batting .344 (11-for-32) with three doubles, one triple, six RBI and six runs. He hit a team-high .556 (5-for-9) in the NCAA Super Regional versus Kentucky (June 10-11) with one double, two homers, three RBI and four runs.

Morgan hit two homers in Game 1 of the Super Regional, marking his second career two-homer game; the first came earlier this season (May 14) versus Mississippi State.
He has played and started in 194 career games in three seasons (2021-23) at LSU, batting .332 (256-for-771) with 49 doubles, nine triples, 20 homers, 149 RBI and 180 runs. Morgan has been hit by a pitch on 47 occasions, and he ranks No. 2 on the LSU career HBP list.

To the LSU fans in attendance last night. The standing ovation for Jordan Thompson was awesome! One of the coolest things I have seen in college sports in a long time. What a message that sent to him and his teammates at a pivotal point in the game. The Gators just scored two and many were thinking here we go again. Then JT comes through with the first RBI and the floodgates were opened. Great job Tiger fans!!!

We just got another LHP transfer. Gage is a sophomore at UCLA. He had Tommy John surgery in 2022. He can hit 95 and will get a bunch of K’s. Has had a little commend issues in the past. In 2022, he pitched 16 innings with 22 K’s and 11 BB.
