LSU FOOTBALL Progression in the Trenches

Nice article. LSU's growth starts up front! O-Line & D-Line!

And that is depth LSU did not have last season on either side of the line — a key difference, and a sign of progression.

COMMITMENT Tylen Singleton commits

This came by surprise this weekend. There’s been so much back and forth talk behind the scenes, would it happen, would it not, when could it happen? Sounds like Tylen just decided to go ahead and go public with a commitment for the Tigers.

Matt House played a big role here to land the four-star LB.

SEC East vs. West

Saw it on SEC Network yesterday ....
Chances Winning SEC Championship

UGA 49%
Bama 41 %
LSU 7 %
....then everybody else

Some say "Flip - a -coin"..but i gotta give LSU the slight edge over Alabama to Win the West ; who has question marks at QB .

UGA's is way ahead in the East + the O-O-C Schedule is Charmin-soft!
Tenn-Martin
Ball State
UAB
Georgia Tech

But they too are breaking in a New Starting QB finally after Stetson Bennet had been there what feels like 7 years!

UGA had possibly the Nation's Top O-Line last year ; i think LSU is getting close!

@rabidDr.

Ok - so per prior post you and I do comparable action vay-cays. So in 48 hours my wife and two boys do this: fly into Lost Wages (aka Vegas), then fly fixed-wing plane to Bar 10 Ranch to shoot guns, ATVs, etc., then helicopter flight to rim of Grand Canyon, then down into Grand Canyon for 3/4 day rafting/camping under stars trip with chef as raft guide (rapids = 2-3 class); cherry on top: boys and I tee time @ Wynn Goof and Country Club. Talk to me goose.

aTm Jimbo SEC media days

I enjoy watching football press conferences from ESPN app “on demand “. I scanned the SEC media replays this afternoon. You can view the aTm player interviews but Jimbo’s presser is not available. Somehow aTm has some control over the access. Every other coaches SEC media day appearance is there. Can anyone explain how aTm is getting away with this?

RECRUITING BK’s view on recruiting….

After listening to BK describe what he liked about Josh Williams as RB I think I may have gotten a little insite into his thinking in recruiting. When he described his ability as a 3 down back. He can run the ball physically, be a receiver, and block for pass protection physically. He must do all 3 with equal skill and effort the and believe in what the objective for the program is…..to compete and win NC by playing at the top point of skill. He must also do the other things like compete academically, have good nutrition, do his physical workouts, and have a belief in the goals of the ptogram.

I think BK looks at a player for the abstract things such as belief in the goals as much as he does his physical tools at football. I am not sure previous LSU coaches did that. I believe if a RB was an exceptional runner and was classed as a 5* or high 4* type but had a distaste for blocking and didn’t put out 100% that was overlooked. i believe BK wants the player who fits in the program, does all of everything he is supposed to do at his best. I believe that’s what he wants and stars don’t matter as much as a good fit for the program. This is not to say he shouldn't recruit a 5* but he must be a fit and understand the goals of the program. If he doesn’t forget him.

Does anyone remember that the previous 4 Classes of recruits of Clemson’s first NC in this century averaged 13. They did have a top QB though. But those dudes were a fit.

OFF TOPIC Nationwide national title ranking

Came across this and thought it was interesting. LSU is currently ranked #8 all-time when it comes to the number of national championships they've earned. Other SEC teams on the list include Arkansas (7), Florida (10), Georgia (19) and Tennessee (40). Stanford is #1, of course, but there are some caveats to that. The first is that the NCA doesn't officially recognize football national championships, and anything before the BCS era there is just a muddled mess. The 2nd is that a lot of these schools made all their hay in a very specific field of competition.

For instance, Stanford is #1 with 134 total national championships. That includes 37 men's & women's Tennis titles, and 20 men's & women's Water Polo titles - obviously all national championships aren't created equal.

Arkansas, who narrowly edges LSU out of the #7 spot, has 12 Cross Country titles, 12 Outdoor track & field titles and 25 Indoor track & field titles - pretty much every single title they've ever won except for a single basketball title in '94 came off the back of stellar track program in the 80's and 90's.

To be fair, LSU has won a share of those themselves, with 32 men's & women's indoor and outdoor track titles - one can only imagine how far ahead we'd be if we had held on to Pat Henry.

Men's (20)
Baseball (7): 1991, 1993, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2009, 2023
Boxing (1): 1949
Golf (5): 1940, 1942, 1947, 1955, 2015
Indoor Track & Field (2): 2001, 2004
Outdoor Track & Field (5): 1933, 1989, 1990, 2002, 2021

Women's (26)
Basketball (1): 2023
Indoor Track & Field (11): 1987, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004
Outdoor Track & Field (14): 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2008, 2012 (vacated)

Other national team championships
Men's:

Football (4): 1958, 2003, 2007, 2019
Basketball (1): 1935
Rugby (1): 1976

Angel Reese wins ESPY

Angel Reese won the ESPY on Wednesday for the Best Breakthrough Athlete after a season in which she led LSU to its first national title and set the NCAA record for double-doubles in a season.

Reese won the award over Caitlin Clark, Brock Purdy and Julio Rodriguez.

Reese dominated the season with a NCAA record 34 double-doubles, averaging 23.0 points and 15.4 rebounds per game. The unanimous First-Team All-America also set the SEC record with 555 rebounds throughout the season. Her 830 points were the third most in LSU history.

Following numerous viral moments such as the now famous “shoe-block” against Arkansas through the championship season, Reese’s Instagram following increased from just over 100,000 at the start of the season to now north of 2-million followers.
