LSU FOOTBALL Some interesting 2023 & 2024 LSU line of scrimmage stats

gents & Tina, got some nice stats for us to soak in. These are 2023 totals and 2024 through 6 games.

Our defense is improved across the board and we are doing it with several young guys who will be around for a few years hopefully.

Offensive line is doing freaking great. If Nuss could start running a few times a game, we could have something special. Geaux Tigers

Good to great….

Gents, what say ye?

Take our running game up a notch and continue to improve in the secondary and we can be in the mix for a playoff spot. Only one more loss the rest of the season and we are in.

We have elite players on offense at QB, RB, OL and WR/TE. OL has to improve run blocking.

On defense we have elite players at DE and LB. Z Alexander looks like he’s quickly getting there.

LSU FOOTBALL 11/14 Brian Kelly Media Availability Notes

  • Said if you told him before the game that Ole Miss wouldn't score a TD in the second half, he'd say they had a pretty good shot at winning the game.
  • Bradyn Swinson has now won three SEC DL of the Weeks honors.
  • Over the last four years, all their games against Arkansas have been decided by one score. Says it won't be an easy game to travel there and win. They lead the SEC in third down conversions.
  • Calls Taylen Green big and physical. He's a mobile QB who can also beat you with his arm.
  • Thinks they've done a great job defensively. They're huge up front and play fundamentally sound on the back end.
  • Called Saturday the first night we saw everything come together.
  • Nuss had other options on the last touchdown to Aaron Anderson to try to pick up the first down, but he had to work his way to his third progression and anticipated where Anderson was going to be. Says he threw him open.
  • Says they break their running plays down by successful (4+ yards or first down conversions on third or fourth down) and unsuccessful plays. They had 9 successful, 10 unsuccessful and 4 "washes." Says their unsuccessful plays weren't one issue, they had multiple guys make one or two mistakes each time, so he says everyone - QB coach, Oline coach, TE coach, WR coach, RB coach - need to do a better job of getting their guys ready.
  • Defensively, having success on first downs was crucial this week, and he felt they did a really good job on early downs. Also credits his defense for tackling on the perimeter.
  • Despite the lawsuit, they still love and hope for the best for Greg Brooks. Says it is what it is, but it doesn't change how they feel about Greg.
  • Wants to see Nussmeier tuck the ball and run more. They get a good amount of man coverage, and some times the field just opens up, and he wants to see him take it.
  • Corey Raymond has a ton of experience and has a great track record. Thinks he's done a great job of developing guys like Stamps and Alexander. Says it was never going to happen overnight, but he has a lot of young players who are improving.
  • Says they have to get Trey'Dez Green on the field more often. They can eliminate the complications that come with a TE by just putting him out wide. Says "I think you're going to see that moving forward."
  • They got a love of cover 2 and man coverage, so the only ways to attack were to go deep or come across the middle of the field. They started calling plays that had routes coming across the middle, and it took some time to develop, so they needed excellent pass protection.
  • Feels pretty good that CJ Daniels and/or Chris Hilton will be back this week. Says "We'll get somebody back, whether it's CJ or Chris."
  • Says Taylen Green is as fast as anybody that they'll see. Basically calls him a better version of LaNorris Sellers, who really hurt them earlier in the year before he got injured.
  • They didn't give Ole Miss a consistent look all game. They felt it was very important to mix coverages up, so they gave them a shell and then switched it up post snap.

A little perspective on what LSU was able to do last night...

Let's keep in mind that Nuss was minus 3 WR's, including 2 of his best 3 and we weren't playing against air out there, not by a long shot.

Ole Miss came into this game only allowing 203.8 passing yards/game and had only allowed 2 passing TD's all year. They were also leading the nation in sacks with 24 (4.0/game) and were only allowing 7.5 points per game as a team.

LSU put up 337 yards passing, 3 passing TD's and allowed 0 sacks against that defense. They scored 29 points in that win.

Nuss might not have looked like he was his best at times, but that was a hell of a defensive team LSU just played. And beat.

LSU FOOTBALL BK Post Ole Miss Presser Notes

  • Said it was an incredible atmosphere tonight. Credits the gamed ay ops for all the special details they did to make it electric.
  • Said he saw Garrett Nussmeier grow more tonight than any other day since he arrived on campus.
  • Credits the defense for making so many plays tonight which kept them in the game.
  • Says you can ask him as much as you want about the run game, but the offensive line played great in pass pro. Nuss wasn't sacked one time against the No. 1 sack team in the country.
  • Told his team to enjoy this game for 24 hours, because they worked really hard for this win, but it's right back to work on Monday.
  • Thinks this defense is really coming around. They're locking into their job and not letting their eyes get too wide. Says he's seen so much growth since week one.
  • Says Swinson is playing at a high level. He's coming up with big plays and getting a ton of pressure, but he's really proud of Zy Alexander. He won his matchups and didn't miss a tackle all night long.
  • Says gettins 18 tackles is virtually impossible in today's game, but Whit Weeks did it. He was very proud of his play. Also calls Greg Penn the glue guy of this defense.
