After the Auburn game I noted Haley Van Lith’s stat line for a PG

Needless to say it was not impressive . Others agreed

but ,,,,today it’s as though a switch has gone on the first half v Arkansas

No TOs , taking her shots , creating , scoring

IMO if she can regain her confidence this team sets up for a good run

LSU BASKETBALL 1/21 Kim Mulkey postgame press conference

Logan Pounds
- Says Mikaylah Williams is a three dimensional player. She can get to where she needs to be on the court. She is strong and when she gets in shape she will be that defensive stopper.

- Talks about her bench about when they come in and there making points and that everyone got to play.

- Says she did not play in a lot of empty gyms. History means alot to Kim and she had been blessed to learn from the best. All she wants is for players to have that feeling of what it feels like to win a national championshipship. There is something from Iowa and LSU that is still being brought up.

- Says she does family day because without their families they would not be here. Says fans want to see this and it's more than just practice and games. She was pleased at Alabama even being down at halftime. Today was a game that they were pretty much special on both ends of the floor.

- Says since Auburn she has liked the composure and the leadership.

- Says they were playing very confident, pushing the ball up the court, it was entertainment today.

- Says helping each other on the court helps their defense. Told each other to help their guards and it was good for them.

- Says she is impressed by Angel everyday. She tells everyone be careful if you critique her. Angel has won 4 state championships in high school. She does things a lot of post players do not do.

- Says no player will ever be upset as much as a coach will be. What Kim does is talk to them in moments and does not chew them out. After Auburn they were in the locker room awhile and she made the players talk and say what they did wrong. What needed to happen after Auburn was leadership.

LSU BASKETBALL LSU vs Texas A&M Post Game Presser Notes

Jordan Wright and Jalen Reed
  • Wright: They were trying to come off a screen and get a corner three on the last play, but A&M zoned it and did a great job guarding it.
  • Reed: The rebounding disparity came down to A&M being more tough and physical. Said they felt like they were boxing out well, but they just beat them on the 50/50 balls.
  • Reed: They can't win if you give up 27 second chance points and they have 0. Says it's usually them getting the offensive boards, but they didn't do that today.
  • Reed: They didn't so much different in terms of crashing the board, but said they just weren't getting them. Doesn't know a specific reason.
  • Wright: The student section was great. Second game in a row that they've showed out and gave them energy.
  • Wright: They tried to take the ball out Taylor's hands, but he still got his shots up and hit a few big ones late.
  • Wright: Thinks they came out with a chip on their shoulder after their first matchup. Said they allowed them to come in and bully them.
Coach McMahon
  • Called it a hard fought game and gave credit to Texas A&M for flipping the script on them from last matchup.
  • Highlighted the second chance point differential as a key factor in this game.
  • Said they did a great job defending the first shot, holding them to about 30%, but they weren't able to finish possessions off with rebounds.
  • Says they're so good on the boards because of their effort. Says they're "at peace" with their shooting percentages being down, so they just go hard on the boards and don't turn it over.
  • Doesn't think the loss was from lack of effort, they just didn't make the plays down the stretch.
  • Felt they were at their best when they had possessions with multiple drives and kick outs. They assisted on 15 of their 25 baskets.
  • Thought it was a great atmosphere. Felt the fans were really engaged and did everything they could to help them out.
  • Said a big key was they had some guys step up when Taylor was out in foul trouble. Said that allowed them to hang around, and once he got going, it was hard to stop, but felt holding him to 6-for-17 shooting wasn't bad defensively.
  • Thinks having 15 assists and 8 turnovers should be enough to win. Said Cook knows he needs to trim down his turnovers, he had five tonight.
Buzz Williams (A&M HC)
  • Doesn't think he's ever seen a 27-0 second chance point disparity. Said two weeks ago, LSU beat them from start to finish, but they were much better today.
  • Felt LSU just dominated them with their effort and intensity two weeks ago, but they took it to them tonight.
  • Said they did some things differently on defense than they did two weeks ago, but didn't want to get into specifics. Said they worked early, but LSU adapted, so they changed it again late and it caused them more issues.
  • They played with a chip on their shoulder because of how bad LSU beat them in College Station.
  • Calls Jordan Wright and All-SEC player and potentially POTY in the SEC.
  • Says Wade Taylor is a very good player and says they are very dependent on him. Says he does a great job of putting other players in good positions because of the attention he receives.
