SEC The Saban thing...

NIL and the Transfer Portal got him, plain and simple.

Whenever there was a level playing field, he's always almost been just a solid coach - above average in some areas, below average in others, but all-in-all just solid.

Prior to his time at Alabama, he had one season in five at Michigan State where he didn't lose at least 5 games and he never went undefeated, he had one season in five at LSU where he didn't lose at least 3 games and he never went undefeated. We saw what happened in the NFL when he couldn't constantly have things his way and every team had relatively similar talent and resources. It wasn't until he arrived at Bama, got the in-state SEC offices squarely behind him in all areas from scheduling to officiating to enforcement (the examples of each being too numerous to mention here), that's when he finally got on a roll, so to speak.

His true 'acumen', if you want to call it that, his legacy, has been his ability to recognize loopholes in the system and masterfully exploit them to his advantage... the rampant corruption at all levels that we saw early on didn't continue nearly as badly as time went on, but then, it didn't need to - once you build momentum and success, it becomes much easier to sustain.

But that's over now. The current environment simply doesn't lend itself to that any more. If Nick can't step on the field with a three-to-one talent advantage, if he can't show up at work knowing that he's going to benefit from preferential scheduling and treatment from the powers that be, a lot of his power and mystique fades pretty quickly.

I don't think anyone can argue that he hasn't been the most successful college coach in history, that's obvious... but while I'll forever be grateful to him cutting through the BS here at LSU as a stepping stone towards his own success, I'll never think of him as 'the greatest' by any measure. At the end of the day, for most, results are all that matters, and that's fine... but for someone to be 'the greatest' in my book, how they did it matters as much as what they did.

LSU FOOTBALL Matt House and the damage

He did to this program will take a couple years to fix. BK’s worst decision by far since becoming coach.

House barely recruited and no one wanted to play for him. He ran off Cain, the best recruiter and coach on the defense. His piss poor performance probably affected the decision of both Wingo and Smith to leave early.

His poor defense cost us a shot at a national title, probably cost Malik the Biletnikof award. Imagine the numbers Daniels, Malik and Thomas had put up if they had 2 more possessions per game.

We have had some terrible coaches in the past but no one comes close to House as far as the potential he cost us. He was given a pot of gold and turned it into sh*t.

O was never going to win another NC, Archer, Hallman and Dinardo were all poor to mediocre. That’s on admin for hiring. But House was put in a position to excel and shat the bed.

Would love to know what really happened. I actually liked the hire as DC.

RECRUITING Louisiana product Tackett Curtis transfers to Wisconsin

Curtis is off to Wisconsin.

The four-star linebacker never posted his offers after entering the transfer portal following his freshman season at USC. The Many grad was once an LSU target for the Class of 2023, but I never heard or read anything on the Tigers' interest a second time around. I thought I'd throw this on here since a few of y'all discussed it last month.

LSU BASKETBALL 01/09 LSU vs Vanderbilt Post Game Presser Notes

Matt McMahon
  • Thought their defensive effort was terrific. Won the turnover battle.
  • Would've liked to be more efficient on offense, but the goal is to win, so he's happy with the result.
  • Said his team emptied the tank against A&M and had to make a quick turnaround to face Vandy today.
  • Has loved to see the growth of his team in terms of defending the three, defensive rebounding and limiting turnovers.
  • Said Vandy did a great job pressuring them on offense, but thinks the players did a great job of figuring it out in the second half.
  • Says the focus is on consistent improvement. Said he's thankful to be 2-0, but he's focused on getting better.
  • Doesn't think Cook had much rhythm in the first half, but he was really efficient in the second half. Says he deserves some credit for resetting and getting hot in the second half.
  • Thinks his team has gotten better at rebounding recently. Said he thinks it has something to do with what they've done in practice, but it's really been attributed to the players effort.
Jalen Cook and Jordan Wright
  • Wright said they knew the got relaxed in the first half, but knew they'd come out with energy in the second half. Says they're a second half team.
  • Both said the win at A&M and tonight means a lot because it helps set the tone for the rest of SEC play.
  • Cook said they've been intentional about attacking the rim, and that showed with them scoring 44 points in the paint.
  • Feels they were soft defensively in the beginning of the season, but they've gotten more physical recently and feel they're really getting into the other teams heads.
  • Wright said he really, really wanted this win over his former team. Said he also hasn't ever gone 2-0 in conference play in his career.

RECRUITING Live updates from All-American Bowl

The All-American Bowl will kickoff at noon in San Antonio on NBC and Peacock.

Six LSU signees are rostered for the game:

Team East: WR Kylan BIlliot
Team West: C Coen Echols, LB Kolaj Cobbins, CB Ju'Juan Johnson, LB Davhon Keys

As previously mentioned, tight end Trey'Dez Green was originally listed on the initial All-American Bowl rosters, but he is not here. He did not respond to Death Valley Insider's message. Also, Johnson was out of practice Friday with a concussion and at the team hotel, Cobbins said. I'll keep an eye out for him pregame to see if he's suited up or ruled out.
