Welcome to The Situation Room
What is the Situation Room? For anyone that missed our debut last week, The situation room, not unlike the one in the White House is an intelligence management room. A place where you can come get the latest inside scoop on LSU news and recruiting information.
It’s our version of a popular series across the Rivals network. A lot of sites that do these types of reports call them “War Room”, our Missouri site calls theirs “The Chamber”, and while I’m stealing their idea, I wanted to come up with something original for the name and to my knowledge no one is using The Situation Room.
With that said, lets gets right to it.
The Latest on Staffing Changes
Knowing Brian Kelly and how he operates, I don't expect much to be leaked on the LSU side of things and I haven't heard much in terms of new chatter since the last update I gave you guys. I am still expecting some changes to be made and like I said previously given the amount and extent of the chatter I've heard to date; I would be very surprised if there wasn't. Unfortunately, nothing new to add.
One thing worth adding is that Brian Kelly has previously told us that Jimmy Lindsey has moved to more of a support role with the staff. One of the names I heard in connection with potential staff movements was a new defensive line coach and would be another familiar name to LSU fans if it came to fruition. We'll have to wait and see if Lindsey's transition to a support role is permanent or just temporary, but I have heard at least one name in connection with that spot and it wasn't someone currently on the staff. We know that Jimmy Lindsey is still actively recruiting and communicating with recruits because his name continues to be brought up when talking to prospects, especially those on the defensive line. I wish I had more to share with you on that front but like I said, I'm not expecting a lot of info to be leaked on the LSU side of things and I'll likely have to source my information from contacts elsewhere.
Transfer Portal
I've already posted about it on the board, but I got a text this morning saying Quency Wiggins was going to be entering the transfer portal. Wiggins was a prospect that came to LSU with a lot of promise but finds himself behind others on the depth chart and hasn't really made much movement up in terms of depth.
Who's in the portal?

Brian Kelly told us his staff would take a much more targeted approach to recruiting and offering transfer portal talent. We know LSU wants to add at least one WR from the transfer portal. The first offer went out to Ja'Mori Maclin but all the buzz over the last several days has been centered around Mississippi State transfer Zavion Thomas.

LSU is certainly one to watch with Thomas who's looking to take a visit to Baton Rouge during the open portal period.

LSU added a major piece to the 2024 puzzle securing the flip of former Texas A&M commit Gabriel Reliford early on Friday morning.
More on Reliford
Gabriel Reliford is rated a four-star weakside defensive end in the Class of 2024.

One of LSU's top targets for 2025 is set to make his decision in just ten days. Berry has a final three of LSU, Florida and Texas. I haven't yet logged a FurtureCast pick yet, but I'm getting close. I still believe LSU is in the best spot and likely sitting in the pole position here. Frank Wilson has done a tremendous job maintaining Berry's interest in LSU and keeping him actively at the forefront of LSU's 2025 recruiting priorities. Florida has made a strong push due to the efforts of Jabbar Juluke. Texas is continuing to push but feels like they've got some ground to make up. If I made a pick today, it would be for LSU. We'll definitely monitor this one down to the finish line, but the Tigers are still in the best spot and the team to beat.

LSU would love nothing more than to pair what I believe is a future five-star running back in Harlem Berry with current five-star and No.1 quarterback overall for the class of 2025 in Bryce Underwood. The Tigers continue to ramp up their efforts to recruit Underwood. Former Oregon State head coach and new man in charge at Michigan State Jonathan Smith is trying to make a late run at Underwood for the Spartans but this still feels like a two-team race between LSU and Michigan. He wrapped up the 2023 regular season with a trip to Ann Arbor to check out Michigan's home game against Ohio State, though he left early for a film session to prepare for his team's playoff game.
Where I think LSU can set themselves apart here is selling Underwood on their QB development and training opportunities at LSU. In talking with some Michigan contacts, Underwood is reportedly less concerned with NIL money and more concerned about becoming the absolute best athlete he can become and that will play a large role in where he goes. So if I'm LSU, I'm sure the NIL factor is still going to be discussed but I'm going all-out and selling the training tools available to LSU QB's. I'm not going to pretend to know what training tools every college deploys but what we've heard in regard to LSU's VR systems and AI are second to none when it comes to quarterback training.
With a Jan.6 announcement looming, I would call it a slight lead, but I still have LSU as the team to beat here.
