LIVE GAME THREAD LSU vs UGA Live Game Thread

A little late, but the Tigers are already up 2-0 on UGA. Braswell and White singled and Jared Jones drew a walk to load the bases before Josh Pearson ripped a two-run single up the middle for the first two runs in the game. Travinski flew out and Milam walked to load the bases again with one out. UGA already going to the bullpen.

LSU BASEBALL D1 Baseball's Projection for LSU in NCAA Tournament

The LSU Tigers are firmly in contention for an at large bid to the NCAA Baseball Tournament, but there are still some doubts as to whether or not they will get in if they lose to Georgia. Today, D1 Baseball released their tournament projections before the start of conference tournaments:

The people at D1 Baseball currently have the LSU Tigers as a No. 3 seed in the Stillwater regional, hosted by projected 16-seed Oklahoma State. Other teams in this bracket include Dallas Baptist (2) and Lamar (4). If they were to win, they would face the winner of the Lexington Regional, consisting of Kentucky (No. 1 overall seed), Illinois (2), Coastal Carolina (3) and Sacred Heart (4).

This would probably be one of the best outcomes the Tigers could think of. Going to the lowest seeded host in the first round gives them a decent shot at getting out (thought DBU is no slouch), but they would then likely have to go to Kentucky for the Supers, which is a pretty tough draw.

What would you think if this were the Tigers draw?

LSU BASEBALL Where things stand

Gents, see below. (6) locks, (5) on the bubble, and Ole Miss, at (11-19), is out.

Locks
Tennessee (46-10, 22-8, RPI #5)
Kentucky (39-12, 22-8, RPI #3)
Arkansas (43-12, 20-10, RPI #2)
Texas A$M (44-11, 19-11, RPI #1)
Georgia (39-14, 17-13, RPI #6)
Mississippi State (36-19, 17-13, RPI #23)

Bubble
LSU (36-20, 13-17, RPI #30)
Vandy (35-20, 13-17, RPI #27)
USCe (33-21, 13-17, RPI #19)
Alabama (33-21, 13-17, RPI #18)
Gaytors (28-26, 13-17, RPI #24)

SEC writers from Baseball America and D1Baseball said (10) SEC teams will get in. With the (5) bubble teams having very similar resumes, that means we have not done enough to be 100% locked in. See below the Day-1 schedule for the SEC Tournament on Tuesday. If (10) teams are getting in, you can infer that if we beat Georgia and move on to play Kentucky, we are in. So let's beat UGA, get locked in, and push deep into the tournament.

Honestly, I think if we lose to Georgia, we will have a lot to worry about.

Tuesday, May 21st
Game 1: (6) Georgia vs (11) LSU
Game 2: (7) Alabama vs (10) USCe
Game 3: (8) Vandy vs (9) Gaytors
Game 4: (5) Miss State vs (12) Ole Miss

LSU BASEBALL LSU baseball SEC tournament seeding

The Tigers are currently await the results of the Bama game (Bama leads Auburn 8-4 in sixth) before they know their seeding.

With a Bama win, the Tigers will be the 11 seed and with a Bama loss, the Tigers will be the 10 seed.

If 11 seed, the Tigers will matchup with UGA.

If 10 seed, they will play the 7 seed, which is still TBD.

Looking like a matchup with UGA is on the horizon, but we’ll see if Auburn can come back.

OFF TOPIC Proud Papa

My son just walked on to the football team at the University of West Alabama. I know it's just D2, but he didn't play at in high school or community College. He only got into football when he transferred to UWA from Community College. He dropped out of band and started lurking around the football team as the team manager and learning the sport.

What I love is that he didn't make it his first year. He was too wet behind the ears. Then had issues with his GPA in his second. He took a semester off and re-centered himself and went back this year with the goal of getting his GPA up and trying out this Spring. The DC told him after he was in. So he accomplished all of his goals this year.

I love the lesson in resilience here. It will stay with him forever.

SEC LSU Softball advances to Super Regional, could host next week

I apologize I’m a bit late on this but I’ve been under the weather a bit the last couple days.

LSU Softball has advanced through their regional after going 3-0 including a run-rule victory earlier this afternoon. They now advance to the super regional for the first time since 2021.

LSU is the 9 seed, meaning they will travel to 8 Stanford, but the Cardinal lost game one of two today to Cal State Fullerton, meaning they will be in a winner-takes-all game tonight. If Cal State wins, LSU will host CSFU in Baton Rouge. If Stanford can defend their home turf, the Tigers will make the trip to Stanford. Big game tonight that should begin sometime within the next hour.

LSU FOOTBALL LSU working on playing a game in Ireland

Brian Kelly said in an interview on Thursday that he would like to play a game in Ireland, and it could be in the works. LSU is bringing in a new travel company in July, Anthony Travel, who helped set up the GA Tech and FSU game in Ireland this year.

“They’ve approached us about it. We’re in the early stages of it, but it’s something that we would like to do.”

  • Think the win should put them in a really good spot to make the tournament.
  • Says he’s as proud today as he was during the last out of the CWS last year. The turn around they had was great.
  • Too early to tell us Gage is available for Tuesday. Won’t make the call until Monday.
  • Thinks if they keep playing the way they have been, they can get to the CWS.
  • Calls Tommys Grand slam the biggest AB of the season.
  • Doesn’t think there’s a debate whether they’re a top-15 team or not. Says there is no excuse to not put them in.
  • Says they swept this weekend because of how well they pitched.
Hayden Travinski
  • Said it was a good last day. He and Alex have been here five years and had a lot of emotions.
  • Thinks the pitching staff is better when Alex is behind the plate.
  • Thinks this teams in “the best spot they could be” heading into the SEC tournament.
  • Think the offense has been able to slow down and be more comfortable at the plate recently, especially with two outs.
Tommy White
  • Said he knew that grand slam was gone. Felt he put a good swing on it.
  • Said he was waiting for a fastball down the middle and he got it.
  • Will know more ab his future after the season is over. Just focused on playoff baseball.

  • Thinks they’re in a great spot going into the SEC tournament. They all want to keep playing, and they’re playing like it.
  • Says this team wanted to go out there and have fun and let the results come this weekend. Feels it’s helped them play better.
  • Says having Alex Milazzo behind the plate helps the pitchers so much. He takes a beating every day but he helps keep the pitchers calm.

LIVE GAME THREAD Game 56: LSU (35-20, 12-17 SEC) vs Ole Miss (27-27, 11-18 SEC)

Gents, and here we are. After securing the series by winning the first two games, we are now a win from 13-17 and having a great shot at the NCAA Tournament. That coupled with a #31 RPI and a #21 Strength of Schedule. Additionally, Ole Miss's woes continue in Baton Rouge (excluding 2022).

A few positive things to note at this time:
- After starting 3-12 (22-15), we have gone 9-5 in the SEC and 13-5 overall. Not bad, let's make it 10-5 today.
- Our RPI has climbed all the way to #31 after being in the 50s when we started to get it together 18 games ago.
- Six SEC teams are in (Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, A$M, Georgia, & the Cows). Six teams are fighting for what is likely four more spots for the SEC: LSU (35-20, 12-17, RPI #31), USCe (33-20, 13-16, RPI #23), Vandy (34-20, 12-17, RPI #32), Alabama (32-21, 12-17, RPI #17), Gaytors (27-26, 12-17, RPI #26), & Ole Piss (27-27, 11-18, RPI #28). All are borderline resumes. Note that you have to have a record better than .500 to get in, so if the gaytors or Ole Piss lose today, that bodes well for us. It would drop the gaytors to 27-27 and Ole Piss to 27-28.
- Tommy White has been lights out during our 13-5 streak. .360 BA, 9 HRs, 25 RBIs, 18 Runs, 6 doubles, and his first career triple this weekend. He already has six hits this weekend.
- Luke Holman, Gage Jump, Christian Little, and Griffin Herring have been money during this streak.
- Fidel Ulloa, Nate Ackenhausen, Aiden Moffett, Gavin Guidry, Will Helmers, and Kade Anderson have greatly improved during this 18 game streak (13-5, 9-5).
- We broke A$M, they are 3-3 since we took them down and they have possibly dropped out of the top-8 as a result.
- Beat Ole Piss today and we not only give ourselves a great chance at the NCAA Tournament, but we likely send the rebels home for the year crying once they are knocked out of the SEC Tournament.
- LSU has the third longest Tournament streak now at 11. The two teams above us are also fighting to get in.
17 - Vanderbilt (on the bubble)
15 - Florida (on the bubble)
11 - LSU (on the bubble)
10 - Oklahoma State (locked in)
* Free Shoes had the longest ever streak at 44 (1978-2022) end last year

LSU vs Ole Miss History
- LSU leads Ole Miss, 184-159, in a series that began in 1906
- LSU has captured eight of the past 12 regular-season series with Ole Miss, including a three-game sweep of the Rebels last season (April 21-23) in Oxford
- Ole Miss swept LSU the last time the teams met in Baton Rouge in 2022
- Ole Miss lost 19 consecutive SEC series in Baton Rouge from 1983-2017; however, the Rebels have won their last two series in Alex Box Stadium – a 2-1 series victory in 2019 and the three-game sweep in 2022.

  • Really liked what he saw from the pitching staff today. Thought it was one of Luke’s best outings.
  • Says Herring has had one blip all season, but outside of that had been amazing for them.
  • Says Holman and Jump are the only ones not available for tomorrow’s game. He’ll talk to Herring and Little tonight to see how they feel.
  • Called Herring getting three outs with a guy on first and second a big moment in this game.
  • Says Crews, Khris Bryant and White are in a class of their own in terms of hitters he’s coached.
  • Says them winning while going 2-11 with RISP speaks to their pitching.
Luke Holman
  • Felt his command was the best it’s been in a while. Was landing his off speed and fastball.
  • He has a lot of trust in the pitchers coming in behind him, and it makes his job a bit easier.
  • Says he’s been working on locating his pitches because he was walking too many batters in recent weeks.
Griffin Herring
  • Knew he’d likely get his name called again today.
  • Felt his stuff and command was still there despite throwing yesterday.
  • Says you get sort of numb to throwing in big moments. He’s been in a lot of them so it’s never too much for him.
  • Thinks it’s set them up much better with Gage and Luke being able to go extended time recently.
