QBs …signees vs transfers

The QB landscape is changing before our eyes as
we have witnessed a plethora of transfer QBs excel …

Every team would love to sign and develop a home grown Bryce Young

These 4-5* QBs work out more often than not but the landscape is littered with those who do not

Sometimes those can’t miss QBs have to go through growing pains before seeing the light ..may take a year or two

On the other hand veteran , college proven and ready transfer QBs are available every year …often to the highest bidder

Whats the best strategy for the QB game recruiting ?
You still need to recruit the best available and hope for the best and at the same time keeping an eye out for the next Joe Burrow / Jayden Daniels to fall into your lap

Is the wait for the Transfer QB the new ,safest approach to top notch QB play
Teams spend 3-4 scholarships on recruits when they can simply pluck a QB from the portal

MJ Morris off the board.

Headed to Maryland. Ranked as the No. 3. Dual QB and with 3 years of eligibility, LSU was not looking for him to be backup for 3 years. It never dawned on me that transfer QBs might look at our roster and our recruiting and feel some type of way about their chances of becoming QB1. We have Nuss, where it’s been said that he could start on over half the other SEC teams in the conference. We have Collins ranked 4th best Dual in high school. All reports were that he really looked good in spring ball with great accuracy. Then you have Colin Hurley coming in and possibly Bryce Underwood. That’s a lot of talent to overcome.

RECRUITING Linebackers

LSU LB recruiting this year maybe off the charts good. Keys, Adkins, and Cobbins are all 3 really top recruits. Atkins and Keys just played in TX HS state championship games. Atkins has been nominated to theTX HS player of the year group. Keys was defensive player of the year I. His district. There are a lot of people who think he is the most underrated player in the country. Cobbins is the top lB in LA and one of the acktop players in ive

12/17 Kim Mulkey postgame press conference

- Said this is not her first time getting tossed.

- Got a lot of text messages from people that still loved her when she got tossed but told the reff that you better toss me. Angel is pulling Kim back and yelled "Kramer come help me."

- It is hard to tell if this is Angel's best performance since she has been back. Reese and Mulkey talk throughout the whole game and Reese wants Mulkey to put Del Rosario in the game and get her confidence up.

- Angel and Morrow are different. Mulkey has alway had good post and the more those two play together you better have someone around them because they will be around the ball waiting to get the ball. There games are different but they are both fighting for rebounds.

- Says when Aalyah was thinking too much and not being effective and Kim says it is important to have a player who can help with that on the court when she is playing.

- Says we are physical and says it is the way they are built. We do not have legs and speed.

- Northwestern used the clock and did not allow LSU to get the ball as much. Told them get anxious and get them at the foul line and stop the clock. She did not want them to start slow again.

- Full court press is a tool for conference play. She felt last two games were too slow and she wanted to get moving.

- Does not think you do not have to remind Angel when she is not being aggressive. Poa is doing fine. Thinks Poa understands it is hard playing the point and has to play more minutes since Hailey is out. She gets the ball to the right people and manages the courts.

- Bob was in charge. Kim wants to play teams where girls are from but sometimes it is not possible.

- Kim did not speak Baltimore and the coach talked about how excited she was and they were trying to sell it out. Did not think it might be Angel's last year but the main thing she is discussing with Angel is get your degree.

INTEL Friday PM Staffing Update

I saw the thread that @gbrumfield started about Corey Raymond and some of the other names floating around and wanted to add some insight to it.

So, a few weeks ago when I posted my initial update on the staffing buzz with some of what I had been hearing. I was hesitant to put too many names out there at that time, because I wanted to do some more digging, and it was still fairly early in the process. We've mentioned Blake Baker, and that Brian Kelly has been in contact with him pretty regularly. But he wasn't the only name I heard for a potential DC move. I'll just put the other name out there since there is a lot more chatter coming out on staffing moves.

So, I'm not sure what Mascona and Cullotta have heard/said and didn't listen to their segments, but it sounds like (based on some of your comments in the other thread) that it lines up with what I heard a couple of weeks ago. So, here's a little more detail on what I've been hearing. Again, at this point it's all chatter and I haven't been told XXX has been offered X job. So, take it for what it's worth.

So, I was told two names to watch for in a potential DC move if Brian Kelly opted to part ways with Matt House. At the time of that phone conversation, my source felt like it was likely to happen.

The two names that were brought up in my conversation in regard to the potential staffing changes at DC were...

Blake Baker - Was told that Kelly talked to Baker weekly over the last 2 months or so and my source knowing BK's personality didn't believe it to be the type of communication of old pals catching up. At that time I was told he would likely pursue the Tulane Job if Fritz departed for Houston. He was a candidate, but Tulane ultimately opted to go another direction, so he's certainly a viable option for BK if a move is made. We know Baker would be interested, whether or not he'd take it I don't know. But I imagine given what I was told in regard to Kelly's communication with Baker he probably already knows that answer.

Lance Guidry - Was the other name mentioned that seemed to have some traction with it and the most interesting thing about that part of the conversation was there were some position coaches being linked to his potential move.

Corey Raymond - At the time of the conversation he had just been let go by Napier at Florida. His name was brought up in connection with Lance Guidry's if he were to replace Matt House as defensive coordinators. To recap some of what I've said previously. I was told that Raymond wants back into Louisiana, I was told he still has his house in Baton Rouge and that he was about four years away from a Louisiana retirement. I know there's been a lot of talk on Raymond and that he's fell off, but I think if Brian Kelly has an opportunity to make a move at DC and you can Get a motivated Corey Raymond back in Baton Rouge to finish out his career, that would seem like a win-win to me.

Bo Davis - The other name that was mentioned in connection to Lance Guidry was Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis. I have a hard time imagining Brian Kelly firing Jimmy Lindsey with the off the field health issues he recently went through and may still be going through. But we know that he transitioned to more of a support role with the program and in the event that he stays in that role indefinitely, they'd need a new DL coach so even if a new DC isn't brought in, this is a logical place we could see a new name. I wasn't told that Davis was only in play if Guidry came over, so even if a new DC isn't hired or someone other than Guidry is hired, I think Bo Davis is a guy to definitely keep an eye out for.

I still don't think we'll hear anything official on this until after the early signing period and or even into January given some of the other names involved. I'm still expecting some changes on the staff and would be pretty surprised if it didn't happen. I'm just not 100% sure to what extent. But given the names and the chatter I've heard I wouldn't be surprised to see some movement at DC and at least two to three defensive position coaches.

As always I'll continue to monitor the situation and anything new we hear we'll bring to the board first.

RECRUITING LSU lands their first transfer, former Texas A&M safety Jardin Gilbert

INTEL The Situation Room: 12/15/2023 Latest intel on visits, decisions and more from the trail

Welcome to The Situation Room

What is the Situation Room? For anyone that missed the previous two releases, The situation room, not unlike the one in the White House is an intelligence management room. A place where you can come get the latest inside scoop on LSU news and recruiting information.

It’s our version of a popular series across the Rivals network. A lot of sites that do these types of reports call them “War Room”, our Missouri site calls theirs “The Chamber”, and while I’m stealing their idea, I wanted to come up with something original for the name and to my knowledge no one is using The Situation Room.

With that said, lets gets right to it.

The Latest on the Jalen Cook Situation

Cook was initially expected to play on Saturday after the judge imposed a restraining order on the NCAA allowing multi-transfer athletes a window to play in games. The NCAA did react well to this news and released what was essentially a threat to those players saying that anyone that played during this window would lose a year of eligibility if the judge's ruling was overturned.

As of Friday afternoon Death Valley Insider is told by a source close to the situation that the expectation is Jalen Cook will play on Saturday.

Here's more on the issue from Yahoo! Sports analyst Ross Dellenger.

It's a slippery slope and not one that should be treaded lightly especially if a few games results in losing an entire year of eligibility. A lot of what the NCAA does doesn't make sense to me and this is right there with the rest of their overreaching decisions. But I honestly think it'll continue to happen until a program stands up to them and ultimately turns it into a massive story with a heavy spotlight on the NCAA and their decision makers.

Harlem Berry's Decision

Just days away from Harlem Berry's decision and not much has changed. LSU still seems like the school in the driver's seat while Florida and Texas continue to try and make up ground. Based on everything I've heard over the last week; I'd be really surprised if Berry made announcement anywhere other than LSU. I actually went ahead and put in a FutureCast pick in favor of the Tigers landing Berry on Monday. There's just too much momentum there with LSU and I don't think these other programs have done enough over the last month to make up that ground.

Dominick McKinley

McKinley hosted LSU head coach Brian Kelly and assistant coach Frank Wilson earlier this week for an in-home visit. From talking to a source close to situation the thought is that the visit went really well for both sides. Texas A&M is making a push to retain McKinley's commitment, but LSU continues to push and work for the flip. There is now an expectation that McKinley will delay his LOI signing until February. This gives the Tigers a massive opportunity to get the big fella back to Baton Rouge for another visit prior to him making his final decision. McKinley keeps things close to the vest and it will be hard to get a good read on the situation if he were to decide to change his mind, but we will keep digging and bring what we can.

A few Portal Updates

There's a lot of LSU buzz right now in regards to Mississippi State transfer Zavion Thomas. So much so that Thomas appears to be close to cancelling visits he had lined up elsewhere indicating he could be ready to announce his decision. The LSU staff feels like they're in a good spot here. He had a great visit to Baton Rouge, he fits a need that the staff wantedt to address in the portal and with another WR target in Ja'Mori Maclin already off the board, he becomes the clear No.1 target for this LSU staff. A lot of positivity swirling in regards to Thomas to LSU right now.

Vanderbilt QB transfer AJ Swann took in a visit to South Carolina on Tuesday but has his eyes set on a couple more visits including another SEC stop in Baton Rouge this weekend. I'm told the SC visit went well, but he wants to check out a few more stops before making a decision. He's expected to take in LSU over the weekend for a multi-day visit. Could be an intriguing name to watch as things move forward.

Another name to keep an eye on that's been generating a lot of buzz is Texas A&M transfer Jardin Gilbert. The former U-High prospect is one to watch as things unfold and I'm told the staff is feeling pretty optimistic about this one as well. Gilbert played a total of 75 defensive snaps for the Aggies in 2023.

Official Visitors This Weekend

As Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney mentioned above Echols will be in town this weekend for an official visit. The former Texas A&M commit is one of many Aggie commits that LSU continue to work on. Getting him on campus this late in the process is a major win for the LSU staff. Auburn is another program making a serious push for Echols.
