Late Wednesday Tidbit: Interesting portal name to monitor

I don't believe this has been announced publicly yet, but I received several texts this evening about an interesting and potential transfer portal option currently on another team that would certainly draw the interest of LSU.

That player is Trevor Etienne of Florida. Early on Wednesday the conversation was that he was still up in the air and the latest I've heard this evening is he's planning to enter the transfer portal.

Could LSU be a landing spot?

The first two schools thrown around in the conversations were LSU and Georgia, but it doesn't line up with his reasoning for wanting to leave.

From what I'm told, he doesn't want to be in a time share and wants to be a feature back. I think it's unlikely he would get that at either LSU or UGA. So I'm not sure how realistic of an option LSU would be if he truly wants to be a feature back. But Louisiana is home, so you never know.

The other thing to consider is, will LSU even look to the portal for an RB? It was a very crowded room this season and there are going to be multiple departures with graduations and Goodwin transferring out. Then obviously theres talk that Logan Diggs will put out feelers to the NFL and what he decides could factor into that. But realistically these coaches can't promise him that he'll be a feature back with the talent they have in that room and the talent they have coming in.

Playere can't officially enter until Dec.4 and he hasn't announced publicly to my knowledge his intent to enter. A lot could happen between now and then but I wouldn't be surprised if we hear something from him very soon.

LSU BASKETBALL LSU vs Southeastern Post Game Presser Notes

Matt McMahon
  • Started the presser congratulating Kim Mulkey on her 700th win.
  • Proud of his players for getting their composure together and holding on to the win.
  • Says Daimion Collins is out with a shoulder injury still.
  • They're still waiting on word from the NCAA on Jalen Cooks waiver, doesn't know why it's taking so long.
  • Said the starting lineup "needed some change". Felt Ward got them off to a good start shooting, but they didn't play well on defense in the first four minutes.
  • Thinks Jordan Wright stepped up for them off the bench tonight. Hit some big free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Thinks Wright is a really good player, but he hadn't been as efficient as he has been in the pass, but tonight he was 50% from the floor and three. Says that's what they need from him.
  • Thinks they need to fix their turnover issues. They need to reevaluate some things and figure out how to get right in that area.
  • Says Mike Williams is terrific. Calls him a competitor and is very coachable. He works defensively and says he's the "head of their defense." Loves his 4:1 assist to turnover ratio. Thinks he was fantastic in all phases of the game today.
Mike Williams and Will Baker
  • Williams says he feels he's grown a lot this season. He just wants to run the offense and play strong defense and he feels he's improving every night.
  • Williams said they have a lot of guys who can score, so his job is just getting them in position to score with his passes.
  • Baker says they had 2 emphasis heading into the 2H, get the ball in the paint and limit turnovers. He feels they did that in the second half.
  • Williams says the turnovers come from playing hero ball, so they need to be patient and move the ball and make the right reads.
  • Says it's been a good challenge playing against these big Southeastern and Syracuse bigs, he likes getting physical in the paint.

INTEL The Situation Room: 12/1/2023 (New weekly intel feature)

The Situation Room

What is the Situation Room? The situation room, like the one in the White House is an intelligence management room. A place where you can come get the latest inside scoop on LSU news and recruiting information.

It’s our version of a popular series across the Rivals network. A lot of sites that do these types of reports call them “War Room”, our Missouri site calls theirs “The Chamber”, and while I’m stealing their idea, I wanted to come up with something original for the name and to my knowledge no one is using The Situation Room.

The plan is for this to be a weekly feature that will release on Fridays. Some weeks may have a ton of information, other weeks may be slower with not as much juicy info to spill. Some of it may not be “juicy” but still information we feel you should know. A lot of it will be recruiting information, but there could be other useful information and scoop mixed in, just depends a lot of what’s going on with LSU for that given week.

So, with that said. Let's get right to it.

The Transfer Portal

officially opens Dec.4

Duration - 30 days.

The first thing I wanted to mention was the transfer portal. You're going to start hearing a lot of news about players "entering" the portal. The fact of the matter is that the portal actually opens on Dec.4 and a player can't enter prior to that date. Anyone posting anything now intends to enter the portal. We've already discussed the announcement of Armoni Goodwin that he intends to enter the transfer portal. You're probably even seeing news about new offers and such going out to portal prospects all over the country.

I know Kenny posted it on the board but for anyone that may have missed it, LSU has offered North Texas WR Ja'Mori Maclin.

Maclin played in all 12 games for North Texas this season. He was the No.1 target in North Texas' passing game. He had 57 receptions for 1,006 yards and 11 touchdowns. Maclin is a grad transfer and will have two more years of eligibility wherever he signs.

I'm sure in the coming days we'll see even more offers going out and likely more departures from the LSU side as well. We will stay on top of the comings and goings of the transfer portal and for those that may not know about it, Rivals has a relatively new transfer portal tracker and ranking system that launched last year I believe. You can access it via the link below and I'll also set up a link in a pinned post prior to the portal actually opening.

I'm still expecting some news on the staffing front. What I can tell you is that I've heard from multiple sources now that there will be changes with the LSU defensive staff. I feel like I've heard this from too many contacts to not think that something is there. Some of the conversations I've had have mentioned up to three or four potential changes. The big question for me is the timeline.

Another thing I'll throw out there is based on what I've heard I'm not so sure that Matt House will be retained as others have previously reported. I have not directly been told that he's going to be fired but there's a lot of chatter surrounding some potential replacements and while I don't want to go into a ton of detail on this matter just yet, I'll just say it sounds like Brian Kelly has been more proactive on the matter than passive. I'm going to keep digging and as more info comes in, I'll pass along what I can share.

Edit: Adding additional information answered in a question later in this thread...

Someone asked me about Corey Raymond....

Other than what I've already posted last night, and in this thread, I was trying to avoid putting too much out too soon. His name was brought up in some conversations I've had. I'm trying not to go too much into detail on it because none of these positions are currently vacant. I guess I'll add some of what I've heard on him since you asked specifically about him...

So,
his name was brought up on a call last night as a possible name to keep an eye on. Though it wasn't the only name that was mentioned. I was told that he still has his house in Baton Rouge and is already looking at moving companies. That's not to say that he's been offered anything. I was also told that he wants to be back in Louisiana and that he wants that Louisiana retirement, apparently, he's four years away from that. But based on what I heard; he seemed eager to potentially return.

Recruiting
A couple of quick recruiting updates from me and then I'll pass the mic to @Kenny Van Doren.

On the Keylan Moses commitment. This kid is excited to be a Tiger and is going to be one of those kids you all over social media doing his part recruiting non-stop. But I wanted to share a full quote from Jacksonville (FL) Trinity Christian Academy four-star QB Colin Hurley who relished the opportunity to brag on Keylan Moses. When we were reaching out to LSU commits and targets for our Recruit prediction feature we put out yesterday, this quote from Hurley on Moses really stood out to me.

"Keylan is impressive. I spent some time with him during a visit to LSU. He's good size, fast and is versatile. He can cover ground like a safety or he can be a big hitter at linebacker. Plays run and pass defense nicely and can present a problem on pass rushing as well," Hurley said.

"On a personal note. He's a good dude. I remember we were doing a photo shoot around the same time and the way he was interacting with his mother spoke volumes about him as a person. I just love and respect family so much. When I see another dude and his family in a good space and uplist each other, I appreciate it and pray over them for success and the best."

Spoke with New Iberia (LA) Westgate four-star safety Jaboree Antoine. Antoine is a top target at the safety position for LSU in 2025 and continues to be prioritized by the LSU staff. There's a lot of buzz around Georgia after a recent visit and while I think LSU was the school in the pole position for a while, this visit to UGA put them in the conversation and it now looks like both LSU and Georgia could be the schools to beat.

2025 standout running back Harlem Berry is now just weeks away from his announcement on Dec.18, I have not yet put in a futurecast pick for the talented Metairie (LA) product. There's a ton of buzz surrounding LSU and I think they're the team to beat in this one. We'll have more on his announcement as the date draws near.

Official Visits
We'll probably post these in a separate thread also just so they're easier to find and locate, but LSU is hosting a group of official visitors this weekend. Including a big named uncommitted prospect that didn't make it in last week. Here's a look at who's slated to be on campus for official visits today through Sunday. There's a small group of guys in this weekend. DaShawn Mcbryde told me on Tuesday that he was schedule for this weekend, but he hit me with a text this morning that said him and his parents pushed it back to the weekend of the 15-17.

QB's in the Portal

As long as we are in speculating season, Does BK look at QB Portal options or does he ride with Nuss? There are some interesting portal options with maybe the most interesting being Dante Moore of UCLA who LSU tried to recruit and had on campus for a visit last year. With JD's success and JB previously, LSU has a proven history of uber successful Transfer QB's and I expect any Transfer QB who LSU inquired about would listen.

Other QB's in or soon to be in the portal that have had some P5 success in addition to Will Rogers include DJ Uiagalelei, Will Howard, & Riley Leonard with likely more to follow.

IMO BK will consider it and may take in one that's a fit and tell them come compete. If Nuss wins the job that's great, then BK would have a back up QB with proven experience. I get there is the downside of how Collins and Hurley would react.
