LIVE GAME THREAD LSU vs UCLA Live Game Thread

Good morning Tiger Fans! LSU and UCLA will kickoff a little bit after 2:30pm CT on ABC/ESPN+. Opening the thread up a bit early to give y'all some time to chat and drop your score predictions. As of this moment, Chris Hilton is on track to play, but Jalen Lee is out and West Weeks in questionable. If we hear more before the game starts on Weeks's status, I'll drop it in here.

LSU FOOTBALL Have they stopped calling PI?

The first part of the game I thought that the pass interference rule had been eliminated from the rule book. Even the TV announcers commented on it and showed a couple of video clips. It was only after Nuss had enough of it and reacted finally, which was out of personality for him did they make a couple of calls, one PI call and defensive holding call. They still didn’t call them all. I gues I am not a good judge of PI but I felt tgeyyinterfered on nearly every on long pass.

Does anybody know where those officials came from? I don’t think they were SEC officials. SEC officials are normally all over PI.

LSU FOOTBALL Brian Kelly Postgame Presser Notes

  • Said they made too many mistakes on UCLA's first TD drive which were "maddening." Says all UCLA's points came off correctable mistakes.
  • They had two TD drives of 90+ yards and that was the first time that's happened in 20+ years at LSU.
  • Liked how they played in the second half. Wished they were cleaner in the first half, but thought they played complimentary football in the second.
  • Doesn't know exactly what Perkins injury is, but says he'll update on Monday.
  • They didn't make any defensive changes at half time, the players just executed the play calls better.
  • Says a lot of credit needs to go to Coach Kevin Peoples for his work with the edge rushers. Sai'vion Jones is lighter than Swinson, but he's been able to coach both of the up in different ways.
  • He has no control over the TV schedule, but says they'd prefer later games, especially early in the season. Feels bad for all the fans who needed medical attention.
  • Thinks they've found their stride offensively and are doing some good things defensively. Said they're getting good pressure and are making some big plays, but they make maddening mistakes which hurt the so much. Says they've made improvements, but they still have a ways to go.
  • They didn't think Chris Hilton was going to "add enough" to the offense to put him in there. Mentions he could be a full-go next week.
  • Says Aaron Anderson has been so consistent for them. He had a back injury Wednesday and didn't practice, was limited Thursday, but still had a big game.
  • Hope Perkins is okay, but says West Weeks will be back next week so they can stay in their 'Buffalo" package or go to their dime package.

LSU FOOTBALL Trey Holly status?

@Luke Hubbard or someone else, I cannot find any real updates online about Trey Holly's status. Last I remember, it was anticipated that he would or would not be cleared to play this week.

Is this the case? Has he been practicing with the team? is he in game shape? could he play against UCLA or South Alabama?

I believe I heard he was allowed to return to the team this fall after the charges were reduced. does this mean practicing?

I know he's from up north, Union Parish. Is it possible he grew up without air conditioning and this can get resolved?

Again, I did bing and google searches and the only new thing I found was on Tiger Rant and it was just guessing.

LSU FOOTBALL 09/19 Brian Kelly Media Availability Notes

  • Says anytime you can win a game after being down 17-0 against an SEC team, it's a morale booster. It says a lot about this team.
  • His team knows they prepare well, but their concern is that they haven't played up to their potential.
  • Thinks we'll see a lot of guys playing and rotating at safety. With Perkins playing SAM backer, they want to keep Burns on the field now that he's not at STAR. Also wants Dashawn Spears to play more.
  • The major emphasis they've put on their defense this week is eliminating the big play. It really hurt them against South Carolina, and without those two big runs, that game isn't as close as it was. Thinks his defense has actually been pretty good at creating turnovers and getting off the field on third down, but the big plays have overshadowed it.
  • Chris Hilton is probable with a bone bruise, Jalen Lee is out with a shoulder and West Weeks is questionable.
  • Thinks the biggest growth for Bradyn Swinson has been his ability to play well in all phases of the game. Pass rushing and sacks are great, but he's really developed in the run game and in coverage.
  • Says he doesn't know when Trey Holly will be back.
  • Thinks they saw some lighter boxes which helped in the run game, but thinks his backs did a better job of making guys miss and hitting the holes.
  • Hilton will add some experience to the receiver group. He's been here for three years and knows the offense well. Says he's been great at tracking the ball downfield, and with his speed, he should open up some things downfield for them in the passing game. Does say he won't come in and just pick up right where he left off. It'll take a couple weeks before he's back 100%.
  • Wants his team to start fast this week against UCLA. They've gotten off to some slow starts this year, and it puts them in some bad situations. Says in practice they've started with 11-on-11s to 'start fast' at practice, hoping it translates into the game.

RECRUITING Weekend Visitors: 9/21/24

LSU’s first major recruiting weekend of 2024 is shaping out for LSU’s return to Tiger Stadium against UCLA. It’s not the illustrious Death Valley at Night that Tiger fans have grown accustomed to, but regardless this weekend is shaping up to be a pretty impressive visitors list for LSU’s game against UCLA. Here’s a look at the notable visitors expected in town.

2025 Targets

One of the biggest names that will be in attendance this weekend is current LSU commit DJ Pickett, who makes another return trip to Baton Rouge. Pickett continues to garner attention from several programs from around the country as the In-state Miami Hurricanes and Oregon among others continue to work for a flip from the LSU commit. Getting Pickett back on campus early in the season is a big win for the LSU staff, he’s shown

LSU FOOTBALL 09/16 Brian Kelly Media Availability Notes

  • Thought his team showed resolve and resilience in this game, but he knows they can play better. They have plenty things to get better at over the coming weeks.
  • Acknowledges Bradyn Swinson and Caden Durham as standout players.
  • Says UCLA is a team that has a lot of veteran players, similar to South Carolina. Their defense has a lot of upperclassmen and is big and physical.
  • Says there's calls in every game that are questionable. Thinks the two flags that brought SC's pick sixes back looked like fouls.
  • Thought South Carolina was a really good SEC teams who beat the brakes off a Kentucky team that played Georgia close. Also points out that they left 14 points on the table when they failed to score inside the five twice. Thought they took control of the game in the second half.
  • Says both of the defensive delay of games they were called for were valid. One time they clapped, and the other time the DE made an "unnatural movement."
  • Says they have to look at their red zone scheme because they have left so many points on the table in that area.
  • Zy Alexander got the wind knocked out of him more than having a knee injury, which is what it appeared to be.
  • Thought Harold Perkins began to feel more comfortable in this game. He missed a few plays, but felt he made progress.
  • They're not at the point where they'll say Caden Durham is the No. 1 guy, but he did what they wanted him to do and he'll certainly continue to be involved.
  • Says Aaron Anderson has improved in every aspect. Going to class, being on time, catching the ball, running routes, etc. He's improved on literally everything in his life.
  • Nussmeier showed the resolve and leadership they wanted to see from a QB making his third start on the road. Thinks he's really talented, but knows there is still more room for growth.
  • Thought he learned more about his team this week than the last two weeks combined.
  • He sees a defensive line that's playing fundamentally sound football. Thinks the DTs haven't been as big a problem as the media thought and the DEs have been great.
  • They're not there on defense yet, but feels they're making the progress necessary towards improving on defense.
  • They purposely tried not to put Dashawn Spears in high stress situations this week, but was proud of how he played.
  • Thought there were more opportunities for them to throw to Mason Taylor, and he already had 8-10 targets in the game. Says one of the best things about him is his YAC ability.

Big news on Ladarian Clardy..

UCF, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Washington and Florida State have been the finalists for the four-star safety from Penscaola (Fla.) Escambia with a commitment planned for Saturday.

But LSU offered on Sunday and Clardy told me it "of course" changes things in his recruitment because LSU was his dream school. We will monitor if he still plans to commit within a week and where the Tigers stand heading into it. Ole Miss has been considered the team to beat by far.
