LSU BASEBALL LSU vs UNO Post game presser notes

Jay Johnson
  • Great night for the pitching staff. Says UNO has some good hitters and they were able to manage them pretty well.
  • Thought it was a great redemption game for his team.
  • Thinks he’s on Brady Neal more then anyone else because he believes in his talent so much. Thinks this is really his freshman year after his injury.
  • Thinks Larson is really strong mentally. Baseball is his life and he loves his approach at the plate.
  • Liked that they scored runs in 4 of 8 innings tonight. Liked the consistency from the offense.
  • Thinks Paxton Kling has taken much better at bats recently. He’s making solid contact, drawing walks and has worked counts better.
Christian Little
  • Said it was great to get in there and put up a 0 tonight.
  • Doesn’t think this team has lost any confidence. They don’t feel defeated despite a rough stretch.
  • Said they’ve made a lot of changes these last few weeks to get back on track.
  • Thinks Aiden Moffett is one of the most talented pitchers in the country.
  • Says baseball is about finding a way to win, but they haven’t done that yet. They’ve been focusing on how to close things out and get some wins.
Brady Neal
  • He always sits on fastball and then adjusts to anything else. Says he got a nice heater for his Homer.
  • Sometimes he gets down on himself when he doesn’t play well, so he’s trying to play with more joy recently to get himself to play better.
  • Says they went through a gauntlet already, so their mentality is to just go for it down the stretch.
  • Thinks they’re “so close” to beating some of the top teams.
  • Thinks what they’re going to do down the stretch is going “to be special”

LSU FOOTBALL Transfer Portal opens tomorrow

Nothing major, but just a few notes for the spring transfer portal:

  • Opens tomorrow, April 16th, and will remain open until April 30th for undergrad students.
  • Grad transfers have until May 1st to enter.
  • *If LSU gets a transfer from any other SEC school, he cannot play this season* so expect them to look for a DT from outside of the SEC.
  • Brian Kelly said he doesn’t expect them to hit any other position besides DT in the portal, so don’t expect them to be super active.
  • I believe LSU is floating right around the scholarship count, so expect to see a few more Tigers enter in the coming days.

SEC Top 4 Baseball Teams

According to D1.Com
#1 Texas A&M 32 - 4
#2 Arkansas 30 - 5
#3 Kentucky 30 - 5
#4 Tennessee 30 - 6
Pretty remarkable! Not sure i have ever seen this....

.....next is #13 Vanderbilt @ 26 - 10
#18 Alabama 24 - 12
#20 So. Carolina 25 - 11
# 24 Georgia 27 - 9

8 SEC Teams in Top 25
There were >10 Teams< ....but
Mississippi State 22 - 14 & Florida 18 - 17 Dropped Out

This is why last week Ronnie Rantz said " the SEC is so stacked that LSU at 15 - 15 could still HOST a REGIONAL
...but that was before they got Swept at Tennessee

At 3 - 12 LSU would have to Flip the Record at 12 - 3...very Slim at Best
However if a “Spark" is ignited and miraculously the Hitting / Pitching comes together ; is it possible to go 10 - 5 the rest of the way in the SEC?
A Tall order for sure!
Finish 13 - 17.....Win a few games in Hoover

I refuse to believe this team will finish the way of ex CWS Champs Mississippi State and Ole Miss did

UP NEXT at MISSOURI

LSU FOOTBALL Brian Kelly post spring game presser

  • No injuries to report. Pimpton went down, but went back in shortly after.
  • Wanted to see his guys handle this as a real game opportunity. Said he thought “some” guys did that.
  • Thought HP did a good job at inside LB. They ran at him a few times and he handled it well.
  • Thought Lacy did really well. Showed he’s more than a practice stand out.
  • Said they need to work on not letting the ball over their head. Coverage mistake cannot continue to happen.
  • Thought they were good off the edge, but need to get better inside on the dline.
  • Gabe Reliford had 2 sacks, but it was against freshman. Want to see what he can do against Emery Jones and Will Campbell.
  • Expect Kylin Jackson to do well covering TE’s, which he did, but want to see his run fits.
  • Thought Nuss was really good. He was clean and efficient and did what they expect him to do.
  • Said one of the long touchdowns, they were supposed to be in cover three but were in cover two because of a mistake. Says that flat out cannot happen.
  • Think the second and third team dline had the upper hand on the oline. Collins and Swann were constantly pressured and thought that’s why they didn’t have great days.
  • Thinks if they can get DT help in the portal and figure out what to do at corner, they can be a good defense.
  • Says Kylin Jackson is working his way into a bigger role, but there’s more room for growth.
  • They’re going to put together a defense that gives them a chance to win the SEC, but thinks the future of this defense is great with the new coaches and their recruiting abilities.
  • Think Da’Shawn Womack is “ready to play”. They like his energy and thinks he’ll make an impact on the defense.
  • Says Zavion Thomas had really settled into his role this past week. Same with CJ Daniels.
  • Says Dashawn McBryde and PJ woodland have had really good springs.
  • Payton Todd has not been as good as he would like. Said he wanted him to step in today and make him think there was no competition there, but he did not perform well.
  • Said Blake Baker was very vanilla today. He played 2 coverages and sent a couple blitzes, but he didn’t wanna show the country everything.

LSU BASEBALL Season status

Gents, barring a 2022 ole miss turnaround were they were 7-14 in the SEC and the brass was discussing a Bianco buy-out and then they got better, were the 64th team in the tournament, and then won the CWS, the season is over. So now we should start playing for the future.

my thoughts...

Bench Neal (dude is 2 and 30 in SEC play), bench Frey (.213 average, no run production), bench Kling (.218 average, no run production), bench Braswell (leads the league in errors), bench Pearson (.222 average), and maybe consider benching Travinski (average and run production way down since SEC play started).

Insert the young players like never taking Milam or Larson out of the lineup again. Have Milazzo catch every game that he can to give the young pitchers the best guidance and game manager.

Tennessee averages 11 runs a game and we have held them to 9 in two games so pitching is improving.

This team has no offensive intensity and no vocal leaders. we need a Mahtook, an Antonini, an Antoine Duplantis, a Crews, a Theriot. I thought White was the guy but his personality has gone inward this year.

RECRUITING Weekend Visitors: Plenty of top prospects expected in for LSU's spring game

A noteworthy name that won’t be in attendance…

I don’t think it’s time for LSU fans to hit the panic button just yet. Moore has been committed to LSU dating back to last summer and has continued to make the rounds on visits etc since his commitment. He visited Texas last weekend and was expected to skip LSU’s spring game in lieu of a trip to Columbus to check out Ohio State’s spring game. It appears there's been a shift in plans due to a change with a track meet and he'll stay in Dallas for a 7-on-7 tournament. There's been a lot of chatter about his visits to Texas and what was expected to be a trip to Columbus to visit Ohio State. I was told he still wants to visit Columbus and is expected to take a trip on April 27th. With that said, I still don't see much cause for concern yet. He’s still been actively recruiting for LSU on social media and was sporting some purple and gold track shoes at one of his recent track meets. I know you can never feel too safe in this day and age of recruiting, but I don't think there's reason for LSU to be overly concerned at this point.

Now for those expected to be in this weekend…

LSU’s five-star QB commit is expected to be attendance for LSU’s spring game this weekend, where he’ll have an opportunity to recruit some other top targets for LSU.

Berry is one of LSU's other five-star commits expected to be in attendance as well. Berry has been a frequent visitor to LSU including multiple stops during spring practice. He's always a guy that's great to have on campus to be in the ear of prospective recruits, because he's the kind of talent a lot of these top guys want to play with.

Moses is one of LSU's biggest recruiters and is always great to get him on campus around other top prospects so he can do his thing. He'll have his recruiting hat on all weekend making his pitch for the Tigers to LSU's top targets on campus this weekend.

Five-Star athlete DJ Pickett is not too far removed from a visit to LSU that “felt like home”, Corey Raymond has been leading the charge for Pickett’s services which has propelled the Tigers to the top of Pickett’s short list. He’ll be back on campus again for another visit this weekend to check out LSU’s spring game.

The Mississippi State commit has been making the rounds in the southeast. He recently made a trip to Gainesville to check in with Florida and is expected to be in Baton Rouge this weekend during LSU’s spring game.

One of LSU’s top remaining targets at WR is set to return to campus this weekend.

Alabama and South Carolina have been the two schools pushing the hardest thus far. LSU getting him on campus with a lot of other big name prospects including Keylan Moses will certainly help the Tigers case.

One of the top remaining OL targets for LSU is Mario Nash. There's been a ton of buzz about in state Mississippi State and he's fresh off a visit to Tallahassee to check out FSU, but he'll return to Baton Rouge for another visit this weekend to check out the Tigers spring game. This is another guy that is great to get on campus with guys like Bryce Underwood and Harlem Berry.

Great job by Bo Davis here getting his former recruit at Texas locked in for an unofficial visit. Brown is expected to be in Baton Rouge for LSU's spring game and has actively been taking visits since Bo Davis' departure from Texas.

A couple of 2027 names to remember

Fast rising 2027 WR “Boobie” Feaster already has over 40+ offers on the table heading into his sophomore season. LSU entered the mix last summer and will get the talented WR on campus this weekend for LSU’s spring game.

Another 2027 prospect expected in is Forney (TX) offensive lineman Jordan Carraway. Carraway is still looking for an offer from LSU and is an early name to keep an eye on for 2027.
