DL Portal Prospects for 2024

Just read where Gino Paez, a 5th year Sr DL from Wisconsin has committed to LSU. It was also mentioned that LSU may be considering Tulane Jr DL Patrick Jenkins, who hasn't actually entered the portal yet

The portal officially opens back up April 16th.

We will see if any new names pop up next week. Word is many teams will be paying big bucks to get Interior DL from the portal this year.

LSU FOOTBALL 04/06 LSU Spring Practice Notes

Individual drills
  • As we waked in, we saw both Damian Ramos and Aidan Corbello go 3/3 on FG's from 35-45 yards out.
  • First and second team WRs stay the same. Lacy, Hilton and Anderson with the ones, Daniels, Thomas and Parker with the twos.
  • Swann and Collins switched between second and third team reps, but Swann took a little bit more with the twos.
  • DT order today: Jacobian Guillory, Jalen Lee, Shone Washington, Kimo Makane'ole.
  • Punters did not look good today. Lot of shanks and short punts.
  • Zavion Thomas and Kyle Parker took all punt return reps.
Team Drills:
  • Nuss hit Zavion Thomas on a nice deep ball. Probably about 40-45 yards of air.
  • Lacy had an insane toe drag. He was wide open, but Nuss missed him a bit, but he was still able to make a very nice catch on the sideline. He's been very impressive this spring.
  • Zavion Thomas caught a flat route and turned on the burners to beat Jardin Gilbert to the slideline.
  • Sage Ryan, Major Burns, Jardin Gilbert, Ashton Stamps and PJ Woodland ran with the ones on defense.
  • Offensive line looked dominant in the run game. So many big holes for Williams and Jackson to run through. DJ Chester has been really impressive in there as a redshirt freshman.
  • When Swann got on the field, he fumbled the first snap and every other play he ran was a run. Didn't see him throw at all.
  • Kyren Lacy burned Jardin Gilbert on an out route for 20ish yards.
  • Bradyn Swinson would've had a sack on Nussmeier if there was contact. Beat Emery Jones pretty quickly.
  • Harold Perkins came off the edge and got a big sack on Nussmeier for the last play we saw today.
  • Freshman Coen Echols and West Weeks got into a fight after a play. Weeks gave him a little shove after the play and they locked eyes and said something then went at it for a bit. Nothing major, just some shoving. Two plays later, Weeks would've absolutely lit up Malachai Lane on a run play, but it was a light contact drill.
One-on-ones
  • Shelton Sampson cooked JK Johnson on a go route. By the time the ball got to him, he had 5-10 yards of seperation.
  • A few plays later, Kyle Parker did the same thing to Jeremiah Hughes on a go route.
  • Malachai Lane had one of the plays of practice. He mossed Christian Brathwaite on a wheel route 30 something yards down field.
  • Kolaj Cobbins had back-to-back reps where he torched Khayree Lee Jr. First play was bad, he got through him in like half a second.
Injury
  • We saw Da'Shawn Womack go down with a knee injury. He was down for a few minutes and limped off the field. Didn't seem to be major.
  • We also saw Sage Ryan suffer an ankle injury. He was replaced by Jordan Allen. Also didn't seem major.

LSU BASEBALL LSU vs Vandy post game presser

Jay Johnson
  • They’ve had several though losses recently, and when that happens, you have to get over the barrier of waiting for something to go wrong. They need to take advantage when they have a lead.
  • Proud of the way they competed tonight. The guys are hurting and upset, and he expects them to be ready for tomorrow.
  • Says he takes responsibility for the pitching woes. He needs to make sure they have the right guys on the mound at all times.
  • Thought Larson had a really good night tonight. Loved how he competed.
  • Says Milams DP wasn’t a bad pitch to swing at. It was right over the plate and he just missed it a bit.
Ashton Larson
  • On his homer, said he wasn’t really looking for any specific pitch, he was just trying to make contact and keep the AB alive and made solid contact.
  • Thinks they have some key moments on both sides of the ball that haven’t gone their way.

LSU BASEBALL LSU record

gents, I heard this on the radio and then checked myself. This is the first time since at least 1965 that we have lost our first four conference series. at 3-9, we will now have to go 12-6 in the SEC going forward to avoid going into the history books with the cows and ole piss. and we are on the road playing a good Tennesuck team next weekend.

12-6 could happen but it would take an immediate turnaround and this team doesn't seem to have much intensity or drive from watching them.

We have been run ruled three times in SEC play. that might also be a first

First of which is five-star ATH, DJ Pickett, who will be on Campus May 31st. Pickett ranks as the No. 9 overall player in the 2025 class and has received offers from pretty much every major school you can think of. Pickett is from Florida and took an unofficial visit to LSU back in January.

LSU FOOTBALL 04/06 Brian Kelly Media Availability

  • One of the things that’s stood out to him about Kyren Lacy is his consistency. Said that hadn’t been the case in years past. Thinks he learned a lot from Malik and Brian last year.
  • Thinks Kaleb Jackson has made a lot of strides in learning the game. He understands presnap reads more. They’re trying to manage his work load since they have two scholarship backs.
  • They want to use the run game to set up play action so they can get their QBs outside the pocket and create plays outside.
  • Very pleased with the offensive line and the running backs. Wants the run game to be bigger than it was last year.
  • Says Major Burns has made the biggest strides of anyone in coverage this offseason.
  • Says Trey Holly’s high school coach was at the coaches clinic and came up to him and told him about the charges that were dropped yesterday. He’s continuing to take classes online, so he has his eligibility if everything goes well for him. Says they could see a full resolution as early as mid April.
  • Says if they’re ever required to be on the field for the national anthem, they’ll be out there and stand proud. Says he can count on his hands how many times he’s been out there for the national anthem in 30 years of coaching. Hopes they can get past this soon.
  • They’ve experimented with Bradyn Swinson and Parish Shand inside while putting Da’Shawn Womack and Harold Perkins outside. In terms of stopping the run, Jacobian Guillory has been outstanding. Need to find the other guy.
  • They’re allowed to have mics in their helmets now, and Joe Sloan has been in their ear all spring using it. Says it’s been really good because it allows quick huddles.
  • Says he leaned on Matt LeFleur to help him learn to the helmet mic. Says his biggest worry is when they go out and malfunction.

LSU BASKETBALL Quick Post Game Thoughts - LSU vs Iowa

Quick Post Game Thoughts

  • Caitlin Clark is just filthy. I know she gets a ton of hype and media, but man is she good. It's like watching a female version of Steph Curry. It's not just her shooting, but she has impressive vision and passing ability to create for her teammates. I know I won't win any friends with this one, but she's really worth the hype and like her or not, for the game of women's basketball she is what this sport needs right now.
  • Flau'jae Johnson should have been tasked with guarding Caitlin Clark. If I was Kim Mulkey and staff, I work with Flau'jae leading up to this game and tell her she's locking up Clark. She's LSU's most athletic defender and it seemed like for 95% of the game it was HVL and Poa guarding Clark and nothing they were doing was working. I don't recall seeing Flau'jae actively take that role until it was pretty much too little too late, with less than five minutes left in the game and a massive hole to come from behind.
  • I'm not sure how much work LSU put into defending Iowa's screen game in practice leading up to the game, but the Hawkeyes had the screens working to perfection tonight. I would have made that an emphasis in practice this week leading into the game.
  • Reese was very good early on, she seemed to lose a lot of that steam when she rolled her ankle, looked like a much different player on the court after that.
  • Overall, it was an exciting game, and that atmosphere was amazing. This game was definitely good for the game of women's basketball. Interested to see the numbers it drew.
