LSU FOOTBALL 09/20 Brian Kelly Teleconference

  • Greg Brooks had a vertigo episode earlier this season, and he had another one on Thursday, so they got him an MRI done and they found the tumor on his brain. Says it's impossible to tell if he'll play again this year. Before he went in for surgery, he was adamant on playing again this year but Kelly said "that's just Greg Brooks."
  • Talked about not playing against KJ Jefferson last year, but says he creates a lot of problems for LSU. Says they're going to have to stay very sound and disciplined on defense.
  • Said he knows they're going to get Arkansas' best after they lost to BYU. Says if they didn't play well against Mississippi State, they would be very motivated to bounce back, so they know Arkansas is going to do the same.

Unfortunately, these are only ten minutes so there wasn't much more he talked about.

SEC Square peg …round hole

Heard Rick Neuheisel discussing the difficulties Rogers faced v LSU trying to execute the new prostyle offense …terminology , loss of best WRs to portal , checks ,on and on

Jessie Palmer said the same during the broad cast

He went 11-28 for just over 100 yds ….very un Rogers like for his career

He went on to note that once LSU took him out the offense they were able to focus on stopping the run

I have a feeling that KJ Jefferson will be a better challenge than Rogers
KJ is a solid veteran QB who can move the chains with his legs .
certainly a top 4-5 QB in the SEC

Tigers opened a (-18) favorite over Arkansuck. wow! other than a really bad 4th quarter against Free Shoes, our tigers have played straight up lights out. Our (2) toughest remaining games (Ole Miss, bama) look like very winnable games. We had the best win in the SEC this weekend and we have the best QB and receiver. we have a couple dudes on defense as well and one of these eight scholly running backs is gonna take over. Every (4) years we play for the National Championship (2003, 2007, 2011, 2019) or come real close (2015 through 7 games. Let's Geaux 2023!

SEC Future opponents

Alabama’s concerns have already been discussed in another OP

but Arkansas , next up for LSU , has given up 21 pts to BYU with 9:23 remaining in 2nd Q and trail 21-14 . (Home game for Hogs ) Ark -8

Our cross over opponent, Florida ,is having their way with the favored No.11 ranked Vols . Tennessee has recruited well of late and was hyped preseason
26-7 Gators at half .If they can hold on it would be a signature win for Billy Napier and his undermanned squad

LSU FOOTBALL Credit where credit is due: Daniels was on fire!

Best game he has played. I still don’t like that he was our leading rusher BUT some of those lanes were so big I could have ran. But he was lights out. I’ve been harsh at times, but you can’t be today. NOW let’s do it 2 weeks in a row, then 3, etc. he doesn’t have to be this good but if he can be 80% of what he did today, we win out.

LSU FOOTBALL 09/18 Brian Kelly Media Availability

  • Injury Update: Speights, Ovie and Mason Taylor are probable. Greg Brooks is out - still dealing with a medical emergency, don't know when he'll be back.
  • Thought the team did a good job getting in the right mindset for their road trip. Had an 11am kick, had to drive an hour to the stadium, but they had the right mindset to go out and win.
  • Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers earned co-SEC player of the week honors.
  • Thinks Daniels' pocket presence was phenomenal this Saturday, thinks he made a lot of throws knowing that he was going to take a hit after. Called a lot of his passes "NFL throws."
  • Felt really good about how a lot of the new starters on defense played Saturday. Feels they have more than 11 defensive starters, wants to rotate those guys in more often.
  • Feels Greg Penn is someone they want to keep on the field, he's one of their best leaders on defense.
  • Thinks Maason Smith is still getting back into things. Found some things against Grambling he needed to fix, and he showed development in those areas against Mississippi State.
  • Says Kaleb Jackson brings physicality and explosiveness, but still has a lot to learn. Says he's terrific to coach, but he wasn't a four year player in high school so he's still learning some of the rules of the game and in pass protection especially.
  • On KJ Jefferson: He feels like this is his year to showcase himself. Feels like he's trying to make plays with a lot of young and new players. He's still big, physical and athletic, but they're going to be prepared to play him.
  • Felt like Perkins played with more energy and emotion on Saturday which helped him to have his best performance of the season.
  • Whit Weeks has elite speed and can make up for mistakes with that speed. In the run game, he shoots the gap when he sees one. They played him as a true freshman because he makes a lot of great decisions with his athleticism, but feels he still has some growing to do.
