LSU FOOTBALL 10/19 Brian Kelly Media Availability

  • Mekhi Wingo and Emery Jones are out, Chris Hilton is in
  • The emphasis for this week is to play physical and disciplined, something the defense has needed to improve on since the Ole Miss game.
  • Specifies that they need the linebackers to be particularly disciplined. With the option offense that Army runs, the linebackers will play a huge role in the run and short pass game.
  • Says he began to see some things from Daniels at the end of last year that led him to believe who could take this next step as a passer. He pointed out the Georgia and Purdue game specifically.
  • Says they still need to get better in the red zone on offense. Said they've began to go with red zone earlier in the week, because as the week goes on they take their foot off the gas a little bit in practice, so by moving it up, it allows them to go hard in their red zone drills.
  • Said he as a college coach, he gets to determine the roster, the scholarships and other aspects that you can't control as an NFL coach. Says he wouldn't have control in some of the things he thought he needed to be in control of to run a successful program. Also says he loves player development, and you don't get that opportunity in the NFL.
  • LSU has won the field position battle the past three weeks. Feels the special teams is doing a very good job, but they're still working to be more dynamic.
  • Deuce Chestnut is inactive. He's still on scholarship and is still on the roster, but he's inactive for this game.

LSU FOOTBALL Need good wins

With 5 games to go LSU has a chance to pick up 3 good wins
Alabama in Tuscaloosa
Florida sits at 5-2 Same as LSU …3-1 in SEC play
A&M 4-3 with all three losses vs good teams( Miami, Ala. Tenn. )

To date three of our SEC wins are against Aub.,Miss St and Ark. …collectively 0-10 in SEC play
Missouri was 5-0 , now 6-1 with their best wins vs Kan. st and Ky …I’ll call it a good win on the road

FIRST DOWN

Every first down was a run play to the tailback or JD. did we do that on purpose to set up play action pass in the future? it did not take long for auburn to figure out our scheme. as good as we looked our first down play calling was too predictable. that was the OC not JD. we surely can improve on that delima i trust.

LSU FOOTBALL 10/18 Brian Kelly Teleconference

  • Says the team is starting to play complimentary football. Highlighted the offense doing "unprecedented stuff." Said defense is continuing to make progress.
  • Said they know they're in for 4 quarters of hard nosed, physical football and they're excited for the opportunity to host Army.
  • They like to try to find guys in the transfer portal that have multiple years of eligibility. They'll sign some one-and-done guys, but they prefer to find some guys that they can develop and play multiple years.
  • Felt Omar Speights played well in his first game back. Thinks he brings a lot of experience and toughness in the run game. Says Whit Weeks brings a lot of athleticism and can run, but "there's no substitute for experience" so they're going with Speights while Weeks learns the position.
  • Someone asked about Brock Bowers injury (I don't know why, but...) says it's extremely hard to replace a guy like that. Says he's had the chance to coach some great tight ends in his time that have specific skill sets, but Bowers has them all. Said it's impossible to replace him, they'll just have to find production elsewhere.
  • Talks about the privilege it is to play Army. Talked very highly about the student athletes there because those kids first dream isn't to play in the NFL, it's to go and serve for our country.
  • Called Army's offense "organized chaos."

LSU BASKETBALL 10/17 WBB practice notes

  • Everyone was present and practicing. No apparent injuries.
  • This team has some shooters. Hardly saw any misses in the shoot around portion of practice.
  • Angel Reese working on some long 2’s and three pointers during shoot around. She said earlier they’ve been working on her long range shooting, and it looks like it’s paying off.
  • Haley Van Lith looks very smooth with the ball in her hands. She was named to the Ann Meyers-Drysdale watch list for best SG in the country, but she could play some point for LSU this year.
  • HVL, Last-Tear Poa, Flau’jae Johnson, Kateri Poole and Angelica Velez can all handle the ball and bring it up the floor.
  • Freshman Aalyah Del Rosario just looks different in the post. She’ll be able to bully anyone that has to guard her. Her and Angel are going to be a problem.

We had a very limited amount of time so I didn't get to see too much, but those were my takeaways from the few drills we saw.
