LSU BASKETBALL LSU WBB ranked No. 1 in preseason poll

The LSU Tigers will begin the 2023-24 WBB season as the No. 1 team in America. This comes as no surprise as the Tigers just won the national championship and fielded the best transfer portal and recruiting class in the nation.

Here are all the team ranked in the top 25 that LSU will face this season:

No. 8 Virginia Tech on November 30th in the PMAC
No. 12 Ole Miss on Jan. 7th in Oxford
No. 6 South Carolina Jan. 25th in the PMAC
No. 11 Tennessee Feb. 25th in Knoxville

Obviously, the AP Poll is subject to change, so the Tigers may end up with more or less than 4 ranked games.

OLYMPIC SPORTS 10/16 Jay Clark Gymnastics Media Availability

  • Aleah Finnegan is the first active LSU gymnast to qualify for the olympics.
  • On paper, the team looks good, so it's easy to get excited about this team. He says the team still has a lot of question marks with transfers and people coming off injuries.
  • This is the largest team he's ever coached (23).
  • Feels this team could be special if they can stay healthy.
  • Haleigh Bryant is coming back for her senior season. Clark says she's much more mature and in a leadership role this year. She wants to finish her college career with a bang, and she still has one more year of eligibility because of COVID, so she'll make that decision after the season.
  • Excited to have Kiya Johnson back from a season ending leg injury. Says they expect her to be fully recovered for the season.
  • Feels with the depth of the team that they won't need so many people to do every event. They rode Aliyah and Haleigh on every event for most of the season due to injuries, so he hopes they can get them some more rest if the team can stay healthy.
  • Says he's not interested in the individual awards, they just want the team to win. Says if putting people in all events will help the team, they'll do it, if it won't help the team, they won't do it just for individual awards.
  • Says they have a lot of mouths to feed. Needs this team to be selfless, because with 23 players, not everyone is going to get as much play time as they want.
  • He's excited to have SEC's in New Orleans again. Last time it was there, they won. They want the fans to get excited and come and set an attendance record. Feels destination cities like New Orleans are a better than the smaller towns like Birmingham because it'll encourage more people to come.
  • Team has 11 seniors (4th, 5th or 6th years).

LSU FOOTBALL 10/16 Brian Kelly Media Availability

  • Injury update: Emery Jones (ankle) and Mekhi Wingo (lower body) are doubtful. Chris Hilton is probable
  • Felt this was one of the most complete games LSU has played this season. Said he thought the tackling was much better this week compared to weeks past.
  • This was LSU's sixth consecutive game with 500 yards of offense. Said don't take this offense for granted, because they're doing some incredible things.
  • Says Army still runs principles of the triple option, but they don't lean on the triple option as much as they did in the past.
  • Thought Zalance Heard played really well on Saturday after Emery Jones' injury. He had a couple penalties, but thought he played well.
  • Emery Jones should be able to be back soon. With the bye coming up after Army, we should expect to see him play against Alabama.
  • Talked about his defense allowing just 7 of 23 third down conversions the past two weeks. LSU is playing more consistent defense and with the new defense, they all have defined roles and can trust each other to do their jobs.
  • Said John Emery's success against auburn last year played a role in him getting some big snaps this week. Feels they running back room has been an unsung hero for this team. They have a lot of guys that can play, but they've accepted their roles and aren't complaining about lack of playing time.
  • Tells his guys that are involved in the Heisman race that they can't control anything except for what you do consistently on the field. Says they'll make their own opinions about the player, so they only thing Jayden can do is continue to produce week in and week out.
  • He's had a long conversation about the disconcerting signals calls they keep getting flagged for. Said the safety was clapping to a corner. He thinks if it happens in the front seven, it should probably be a penalty, but if you're 10-15 yards deep, you probably weren't trying to simulate the snap and shouldn't be a flag.
  • Says their getting a lot more quarters and trapping two defenses. It's forcing Daniels to go through more of his progressions, and he's been outstanding doing so.
  • With a win over Army, Brian Kelly would hit 300 career wins as a head coach. Says he didn't even know this would be his 300th win. He loves what he does and doesn't count wins, he's just worried about getting his team ready for each week. Said his first game as head coach at Grand Valley, the president of the school yelled from the press box "who the hell hired this guy." Said he could hear him because the stadium was quite empty.
  • Says the atmosphere at Tiger Stadium is a huge advantage. We saw that this week with false start and timeouts by Auburn this past week.
  • They're going to do some special pregame things for the Army game.
  • No update on Deuce Chestnut right now. Says he will let us know as soon as he gets some firm information.
