LIVE GAME THREAD LSU MBB vs Kansas State Live Game Thread

The LSU Tigers (+294 ML) hit the road for their first real test of the season vs Kansas State (-372 ML, -8.5 Spread). The game tips off at 8pm CT and will be broadcasted on ESPN+.

These two met last year with KS coming out on top, but they're both drastically different rosters and LSU has their second leading scorer from a year ago, Cam Carter. The Wildcats beat New Orleans by 29 and Cleveland State by 13 before this game. Branden Hausen, David N'Guessan and Max Jones lead the team in scoring with 19.5, 16.5 and 15 PPG respectively. They shoot the three ball really well (0ver 43%) and shoot 50% as a team from the field.

This game will give us a really good idea of where LSU is at just three games into the year. They'll need their guards to play at a high level and feed Jalen Reed down low. If they can contain the Wildcats three point shooting (they've done well defending the three in their first two games), they should have a good chance to pull the upset tonight.

LSU FOOTBALL 11/14 Brian Kelly Media Availability Notes

  • Tyree Adams is practicing with the second group. Says they can use him in emergency situation on Saturday.
  • Thinks they've had a great week of practice. Nobody has been happy, so they've put their head down and went to work. Expects them to play well this week.
  • Calls Trey'Dez Green a viable target for them, but points out the volume of WRs they have. They want him to be apart of the offense, but they have a ton of mouths to feed.
  • They put the green dot in Sage Ryan's helmet to help him out a few weeks ago. Doesn't seem it's been helping in my opinion.
  • Says they understand they still have a chance at the SEC Championship, but their main focus is just being better each week and hopefully if they win out they can keep on playing.
  • Says when you become an OC, there's a difference in making suggestions and making decisions. He was making suggestions most of his career, but now he's making decisions. Says he (BK) has used his experience as an OC to help him out as the year has gone on.
  • Says SEC teams don't like to face LSU's defense in passing situations because they can get after the quarterback and make their lives difficult, but they like it when it's 2 TEs and they can run it down their throat. They need to figure out how to change that narrative.
  • Likes what he's seen from Nuss this week. Says he's incredibly locked in. "In my experience, when a quarterback is this locked in, you might want to watch the game."

RECRUITING 11/13 LSU MBB Recruiting Update

Matt McMahon and LSU have been on a recruiting heater in 2025, earning commitments from three top-65 players in the class. The early signing period began today, and it looks like they're expecting to get the paperwork from all three of their recruits today.

As of 1pm on Wednesday, November 13th, LSU has already received paperwork from Matt Gihool, the No. 65 overall player in the class. The 6-foot-11 center from Pennsylvania was the Tigers first 2025 commit, and he wasted no time making it official once early signing day rolled around.

As for their other two recruits, the Tigers are expecting to receive their paperwork soon.

Jalen Reece, the Tigers most recent commit in the 2025 class, is a 5-foot-10 point guard from Orlando, Florida. He ranks as the 49th best player in the class and has been a rapid riser in the recruiting rankings. We know McMahon loves his guards, and he's got one that he hopes can become a superstar in Baton Rouge.

Mazi Mosley is the Tigers highest ranked player in the 2025 class (at least as of today). The 6-foot-4 SG played his high school ball at the famous Montverde Academy and ranks as the 40th best player in the class. He's also Magic Johnson's nephew.

Update: Mosley’s papers are now officially in.

The Tigers also just hosted five-star PF, Chris Cenac this past weekend. Sources close to the situation tell us that LSU believes they are "in the mix" for his talents, but he's got a lot of eyes on him. He's originally from New Orleans, so they have that tie to him. They don't expect him to announce his decision during this early signing period, so it may be a while until we learn more.

Update: Papers are in.

OFF TOPIC Veterans

The only contributor I know for sure on here who served is Chevy. I know there are others. So, thank you Chevy and all other vets. If you are a veteran, please take a second to write what branch you served with and any other info you want us non vets to know about you. I asked, so it won’t be self-serving. Would be a totally different country if it wasn’t for our veterans.

RECRUITING 11/13 LSU Baseball Recruiting Update

The LSU Tigers Baseball team is set to sign the No. 1 recruiting class in the 2025 cycle today based on Perfect Game's rankings. They hold commitments from two of the top-10 and 11 of the top-11 players in the country. Jay Johnson and Co. put a ton of recruiting work in, and they continue to show why they're the best in the business. Here's their 2025 class:

Dean Moss, OF: 6-0, 182lb. Product of IMG Academy.

Brady Ebel, SS: 6-3, 190lbs. Corona HS in California.

Quentin Young, SS: 6-5, 215lb. Oaks Christian HS in CA.

Miguel Sime Jr, RHP: 6-4, 235lb. Poly Prep Country Day in New York.

River Hamilton, RHP: 6-3, 185lb. Sam Barlow HS in Oregon.

Omar Serna, C: 6-2, 225lb. Lutheran South Academy in Texas.

Mason Braun, 1B: 6-0, 195lb. Penn HS in Indiana.

Reagan Ricken, RHP: 6-5, 220lb. Great Oak HS in CA.

Jack Ruckert, SS: 6-1, 185lb. Catholic HS in Baton Rouge, LA.

Marcos Paz, RHP: 6-2, 220lb. Hebron HS in Texas.

Ethan Clauss, SS: 6-2, 190lb. Palo Verde HS in Nevada.

Williams Patrick, OF: 6-2, 200lb. St. Frederick HS in Monroe, LA.

Zion Theophilus, RHP: 6-2, 196lb. Moeller HS in Ohio.

Landon Hodge, C: 6-2, 195lb. Crespi Carmelite HS in CA.

Jonah Aase, LHP: 6-1, 190lb. Meridian HS in Washington.

Briggs McKenzie, LHP: 6-2, 185. Wendell HS in North Carolina.

Marshall Louque, SS: 6-3, 195lb. Lutcher HS in Lutcher, LA.

Karson Trichel, RHP: 6-4, 200Ib. Ouachita Christian in Monroe, LA.

Pretty healthy mix of positions in this class. RHP and LHP, a few catches and outfielders, but a whole lot of infielders. Remember, all these SS will probably move around in the infield once they get to college.

RECRUITING 11/13 LSU Women's Basketball Recruiting Update *Story Added*

LSU BASKETBALL 11/12 Matt McMahon Media Availability

  • Thinks Coach Tang has done a great job constructing Kansas State's roster. They're averaging 20 assists per game and hit a lot of threes.
  • Says Cam Carter had good times at K-State, so doesn't think it's a "revenge game," but still wants to win.
  • Thought there were a lot of distractions for the team this weekend with the game and recruiting, and it showed in the first half. Wants to see his guys lock in this week.
  • Pleased with the rim protection this far. Thinks they've allowed the ball in the paint too much, but rim protection has been pretty good.
  • Pleased with the three point defense, but they're getting beat off the dribble too much. That's been a big focus for them this week.
  • Not ideal to be down 10 points on Sunday, but it was a chance to see how his team performed with adversity. Thought they responded really well to it.
  • Jalen Reed has gained 15 pounds in muscle this offseason, which has allowed him to play stronger than in years past. Thinks he's really comfortable down in the paint now.
  • Likes their momentum in recruiting with signing day coming tomorrow.
  • Pleased with Noah Boyde's recovery. He's cleared for practice now, but not game action yet.

LSU FOOTBALL IMO LSU will not make ….

the playoffs in 2025. This is not meant to be a negative “hit” piece just observation.
- I don’t see our OL run blocking improving due to most of OL going to NFL, graduation, coaching. Also BK may have to replace Brad Davis. He seems to be a good recruiter but has not been able to get our run game blocking to improve. The lack of a good run game has made us one dimensional.
- Need elite, game changing WRs. These may need to come from TP.
- The D is improving but still has a long way to go.
This appears to be more a Jimmy and Joe problem rather than coaching.
- Nuss will need to improve like Burrow and Daniel’s did in their second year. He also needs to be able to run more. Not sure if that is due to BK not wanting to risk Nuss getting injured but opponents Ds don’t fear him running. He’s not a Daniels but IMO he is as good as Burrow running.
Bottom line I see 2025 as a repeat of 2024 unless there are a lot of unexpected improvements.
IMO if BK doesn’t get us to playoffs in 2026 a BK contract buyout could happen. Paying a HC almost $10 mil/ yr and not making the playoffs after 5 years is unacceptable.
Hope I’m wrong about this. Again not intended as a negative slam.
